Chapter 14 Lora West and Her Friends

956 Words
“You can leave now!” Richard smiled and smashed the door. Standing outside, Lora was furious. She was eager to shout at Richard. But she clencher her fists and walked fast back to her second-floor villa. No one found that a man wearing sunglasses was watching them. “Damn it! Damn it! b***h! Mrs. Hughes! Give me a glass of water! I have never been treated like this!” Sitting on the couch which had cost dozens of thousand, Lora kept cursing. Holding a glass of water, Mrs. Hughes wondered who irritated Lora West this time. Jesus! Who is the miserable man this time! Because of Kate’s kid practicing piano, Lora West forced the Bensons to move out of here. The Bensons are great people. Kate is a college teacher. She is graceful and kind. Bill Benson’s daughter-in-law is a middle school teacher. She is a polite and gentle woman. And the kid! The cute kid! She is so sweet. Every time she saw me, she would greet me with a sweet smile. Because of hearing the kid practicing piano, Lora West forced them to move out! But the poor kid only practiced piano in the afternoon. And the music was ear-pleasing. Why would Lora hate them? That housekeeper might be right. Lora’s son isn’t gifted. She might envy the Benson for their talents. Why would she be so mean? Mrs. Hughes stopped complaining and gave Lora the glass of water carefully. She had worked for her for a year. And now, she knew how bad-tempered Lora West was. Making mistakes when Lora was mad would be the last thing in this world Mrs. Hughes would do. But she couldn’t quit this job. She still needed the salary to pay for her grandson’s education. “Ahhhh! Edith, Kelly, I need you! Come to my house, right now!” Lora drank the water and sent messages to Edith and Kelly on Skype. Mrs. Hughes was more nervous. Bending down to get the empty glass, she prayed for the one who had irritated Lora. Who is that miserable man? God bless him! Every time when Lora plans something bad, she will contact her friends, Edith Foster and Kelly Herbert. Having worked for Lora for a year, Mrs. Hughes knew these three women were not easy-going people. Neighbors all commented on them as female tigers. These three women pretended to work hard to serve people living in this community. In fact, everyone living here knew that these three women would never serve them willingly. After all, their husbands or families were worked for the government. Otherwise, people living here would have elected a new community committee… Now, Mrs. Hughes felt sorry for the man who was going to face Lora’s anger. At the same time, she was curious about who would make Lora West so furious and clumsy. She saw clearly when Lora walked home: Lora’s dress was broken; there was dirt on her face, and there was a footprint on her dress! “Lora! What happened to you? Your face? God! Who dared to do that to you?” Seeing Lora’s look, Kelly was shocked and furious, Lora felt much better when she saw her friends. She told them what had happened calmly. “What? A man who rented a house here did that? Who is he? Is he rich or powerful?” Knowing what had happened, Edith was confused. She knew clearly that Lora wasn’t the kind of person who would tolerate bad things. It was rare that Lora hadn’t taught that man a lesson before she came home. Instead, Lora invited Kelly and her for discussion. Edith thought Lora must have considerations. “I don’t know who he is. He and his wife and son just moved in today. None of them looked like wealthy,” Lora answered. Thinking of something, she added, “But there is something special about the man. I can’t tell it. He didn’t say many words. But I was nervous when I stood before him. When he gazed at me, I felt that… that I…” Lora couldn’t find a proper word to express her feelings. ow, she could only remember the man’s eyes which made her afraid. And that was why she asked Edith and Kelly to stay with her. “It doesn’t matter who he is! We will tell him we are not someone he could deal with. If he was wealthy or rich, why does he rent the house? I think we should go to find him together and ask him to leave here right now!” Kelly Herbert shouted. She was the youngest yet most bad-tempered one among these three women. Knowing what Kelly had been through, she offered her suggestion. Being forty years old, Kelly looked rather younger than her age. Her body was attractive to his husband who was the director of the police department here. His husband often told her that he loved her horny behaviors when they slept together. Her husband never criticized her for her wrongdoings and that made Kelly even more arrogant. Hearing that, Edith nodded her head slightly. They were wealthy and powerful. That was a fact. But life was so boring. Last time, she had thought she could get some fun from the Bensons, who would know they would move out so quickly? And here came a new man who would bring some fun to them. Edith was excited. It felt so good to see poor people struggle and beg for their forgiveness. That was much more interesting than shopping or drinking! “I don’t know if it is the right choice. Because of the Bensons, my husband asked me to behave myself recently. We have to make a perfect plan…” Lora shook her head and refused Kelly’s advice. Somehow, she had a more vivid memory of Richard’s eyes. Before he closed the door, he looked at her with his cold and unemotional eyes…
