Chapter 12 Poor Little Rich Boy

674 Words
Milos left in a huff and arrived at his desk. Richard was sitting there quietly sipping on his Americano.  “Mr. William, I’m so sorry. Let me contact your landlord right this minute. In the interim, would you mind filling these forms out for me, please? Once the owner arrived and signs the contract with you, you’ll be good to go.”  Richard was pleased to see how hard-working Milos was. He felt that Milos wasn’t one to be seduced easily by cheap thrills– he had a good head on his shoulders and behaved ethically. Richard gazed at Milos and wondered if he should give him a chance to be his partner, and go through doomsday with each other’s company.   Meanwhile, Jordan wasn’t happy to hear that Milos had essentially refused his offer without even truly considering it. He was yelling at Maria on the phone.  “f**k! I can’t wait anymore! Does this man give you more money than I do? Maria, tell him how much I can offer! Damn it, I can give him all the money in the world. Tell him to name his price.”  Jordan was pissed off because Milos had refused Maria several times thanks to Richard.  But Jordan had more tricks up his sleeve.  “I want you to go and tell Milos that if he seduces a woman named Vera Albert Thompson, I will give him 20,000 dollars. Just like that. How ‘bout it?”  Maria went back to Milos to negotiate with him.  “Milos, Jordan has another offer you. If you seduce this woman, he’s gonna give you 20,000. All you have to do is seduce her successfully! That’s all!” Maria pleaded with Milos.  “Twenty thousand? To seduce her? I can’t do that. I am married. I can’t! Why would you even think I would do something like that?” Milos never thought he would be asked to do such a thing. It was crazy. He refused without thinking. And then he heard Richard’s booming voice behind him. “Milos. Listen to me. You can say yes. I can wait. Money is money, after all.” “Mr. Williams, trust me. I won’t do that. You are my client today,” Milos explained eagerly. He was worried that Richard was angry, and might leave. Maria was nothing but a troublemaker; she probably just wanted Milos to lose his precious contract. Richard smiled at him and tapped his shoulder. “Milos, just do as they say. If this woman does fall in love with you in three days, I will give you 20,000. Don’t worry about the money, just do as they say and see how things go. Alright?” “What? Another 20,000? Mr. Williams, why would you do that?” Hearing what Richard said, Milos was shocked. Wide-eyed, he looked at Richard in shock.  Maria was shocked, too. Looking at Richard, she felt both puzzled and astonished. Right then, Maria called Jordan up and told him everything that had transpired in the last five minutes. “Is he insane? It has nothing to do with him. Why would he pay Milos 20,000? What is planning? He doesn’t look like a rich man. He must be bragging. It must be a trick. Yes, it must be a trick. He wants to hide his surprise,” Maria whispered down the line. Both of them couldn’t believe that Richard would really just hand out 20,000 dollars to Richard. Even a wealthy man wouldn’t waste money on such things. “That is funny. Richard Williams… he’s brave, and I appreciate that. He reminds me of myself. But if I were him, I would leave quietly now. He is far too naïve… Damn…” Jordan dropped the call just as Richard opened up his bag to reveal piles and piles of gleaming cash.  “Maria, why don’t you tell Jordan that I’m happy to give Milos anything he needs? That’s why I’m deciding to part with a million dollars right here right now.” Richard said, snarling. “Milos, he’s one million. A part of this is rent. Keep the change. Just make Vera Albert Thompson fall for you within the next week. I want you to do everything in your power to take care of that woman. You hear me?”
