Chapter 1- Someone Like Me?

1366 Words
I cannot feel my legs.     That's what I felt the whole f*****g day! I was worried because I had this paranoia that one staff from the Executive office will call me to have my ass fired for being so rude to the company's CEO. I prayed during whole lunch at the toilet. I know that Katy's been an asshole to me but I don't want to lose this job.         "Hey," I almost jumped at my seat when Calvin called me.     I had my hand over my chest. My heart's gonna explode anytime. Calvin looked at me and flashed his perfect set of teeth.         "Looks like someone has too much caffeine for today." he joked.     I rolled my eyes and made a gagging face at him. He laughed and got his wallet from his trousers pocket. I watched him curiously. Damn, he has the most perfect butt I've ever seen in my whole life!        "What do you need?" I had to ask him. Because suddenly, my face heated for no reason by just scanning his body.     His face lit up and put his credit card at the table.          "Can you help me for once, Eleanor? I have a meeting with Dwayne in thirty minutes. I need someone to buy me two black coffee. You know, I have to give him something so I can have a better chance at the promotion." he explained.     Promotion? Was that the promotion Katy was telling us yesterday? She's definitely working her ass out because she's vying for the promotion. And, Calvin wants the spot, too?         "Ah! I don't think Katy will agree to that, Cal." I said honestly.     Truth to be told, I want Cal to win the promotion. I'm feeling like the moment Katy wins, I will have too much on my plate. She can be demanding all the time and I don't want that. With Calvin, I think I will have the shot.         "Oh, I talked to Katy. To be honest, I kinda lied when I said I will send you to get an interview for our issue."      I nodded at him and grabbed his card. I reached out for my coat to get outside. The winter's almost gone since it is January but I still need to wear it. I was wearing a strapless dress.         "Two Americano for your promotion, then." I said.     Calvin clapped like a satisfied ringmaster. It's like I was his trained-tiger. I rolled my eyes while he grabbed the chance to kiss me on the cheek. That was the moment, I knew I f****d up.                                                                                         ***     I was walking at the main street of the city. It was kind of crammed since everyone's on their way to get home. It's already four-thirty in the afternoon. I excused myself to get pass through the long line of passengers hailing cabs. I went inside the coffee shop.     I was looking at the long line. Can I buy coffee in like thirty minutes? It's like a never-ending line and I was at the back of these two girls that looked like they were the type of woman who cannot decide on where and what to buy. I can hear their high pitched voices talking about their branded things and hair trends of today.     I groaned inwardly. As much as I want to impress Calvin to get on his good side, this coffee shop was definitely ruining it. Ten minute had passed and I was still here, listening animatedly to the two girls. They were now talking from brands, to their weekend plans and getaways for this whole year.     When my phone beeped from my pocket, I knew that it was Calvin. I immediately answered it.         "Cal!" I spoke up.         "Hey, where are you? Do you have an accident?" he asked in a soft and worried voice.         "No. I am fine, Calvin. It's just that I was stuck in here. The line's too long , so it will take time." I said honestly.     The other line went silent. I heard some voices on the background. Did they start the meeting? Calvin said something to someone then went back to me.         "Sorry, Eleanor. I am talking to Dwayne's secretary." he said and cleared his throat. " He's not here yet until five so... just take your time, okay? Just deliver the coffee on conference room three."     Before I could answer, the line went dead. So, I will deliver the coffees, too? I will see Dwayne again after that day in the elevator lobby?     What if he recognized me?   I faced the barista and told my orders. I waited for my two Americano in three minutes. I put Calvin's card at my pocket and walked back to the office. I still have five minutes so I walked as fast as I could. I tapped my ID to the lobby. I saw the elevator's gonna close so I ran to it.         "No! Please hold the door!" I screamed.      I thought that it will closed entirely when a hand stopped it from closing. I heaved a sigh and entered the elevator to thank the kind man when I saw his face.     Dwayne goddamn Taylor...         "What are you looking at?" he asked me in a cold tone.     My paranoia attacked again. Can he remember me? The way I asked him a favor yesterday was unforgettable. Will he fire me now? I stood there like a crazy person, just staring at him. He looked so...         "Handsome." I continued  mindlessly in a loud voice.     He looked at me weirdly. He did not expect it, too.         "I'm sorry, miss. But I don't have time for someone like..." he trailed off and scanned me from head to foot.     He made a disappointed face and looked at his phone. I felt so offended.     Someone like? What? I was looking very okay in my long black shirt and blue ruffled top with a formal coat. I bit my lower lip to stop saying anything. Of course, Ellie! He likes woman with big breasts and butt... like his fiancee, Ivana!      The elevator opened at the next floor. Two man entered the elevator. They greeted Dwayne who did not even look at their way and continued reading some emails on his phone. I was busy counting the ways how to kill the arrogant Dwayne Taylor on my mind when we reached the 30th floor. He went out first and I tailed him.     Well, it's not like I wanted to but I have to deliver these coffee. I watched the marbled floor when he stopped and I bumped on his back. The coffee almost spilled but my reflexes was fast to stop it.         "Ouch." I caressed my forehead.     His back was so ripped that my forehead embraced the impact it made against them.         "Are you following me?" he asked again.     My  jaw fell open.     What did he say?         "No, Sir." I answered him.     His face showed like he doesn't believe me. His eyes were cold like he's dealing with a stalker.         "Miss, I told you I am not interested with you." he warned me.         "Me, neither... Sir" I said.      His forehead creased with confusion. I don't want to be rude since he pays me good money but I want to be clear. That not every girl has the hots for him. I'm just here working for his company with no intention of dating him. He looked ruthless and rude. I like Calvin more than him.         "What?"      Now, he sound so offended. I bit my lips and shrugged.         "I will just deliver the coffees, Sir. Excuse me, please." I said politely and knocked on the door.     Calvin opened the door. He looked straight to Dwayne and walked past me. My eyes widened. It's too impossible not to see me. So, instead of making myself feel bad... I put the two Americano on the table together with his card and left.     Oh, yeah right.     He wants the promotion.     Nothing more.
