Falling Rain

Rain 

    I wake up feeling exhausted, like I got no sleep at all. I roll in the bed to find it empty and cold. There is a note on Mason’s pillow. I grab it, 

Morning Beautiful, 

I will be out most of the day, 

Stay in bed as long as you want. 

When you do get up be prepared Helen is setting up a spa day for you and the girls. 

See you at Dinner.

    I yawn, looking at the alarm clock, it’s past 11 already. I know I should get up but I have zero energy. I lay back down, pulling the blankets back over me. I close my eyes and try to drown out the light seeping in through the windows. 

    At some point I hear a noise, I think it’s the wind until I hear the patio door click. I sit up, groggy and look around the room. The patio door is wide open, there is no wind or storm outside. As my eyes adjust I see something in the corner of the room, something watching me. I blink twice and see it, a grey wolf. 

    I scream but nothing comes out, as it takes a step closer to me, baring its teeth. I push the covers away and move to the edge of the bed. I shrink back with fear as the wolf growls at me, my feet hit the floor and I go to take a step, but my legs are in shock and I collapse. I hit the floor and roll onto my back, watching the wolf. 

    There’s something familiar about the eyes, they look like eyes from my past. 

    I start to crawl to the door, trying to call for help but I still can’t make my words come out. 

Mason! Help. Someone help! I desperately think to myself. 

    I am about fifteen feet from the door and the wolf is closing in on me. I start to crawl faster when the wolf jumps on me, biting me. 

    I scream, my voice coming out in a shrill shriek. The wolf has bitten my upper thigh on the outside. The pain is excruciating and I feel like I may pass out. The door bursts open and I see Alex rush in, Maximus behind him. 

    The wolf jumps off me and runs back to the patio door, jumping down to the ground. Alex shifts and chases after him. Maximus comes to my side and lifts me off the ground. 

“You’re alright… it’s going to be alright…” He says as he wraps me up in a blanket. I realize I am still naked from last night. I feel embarrassed and ashamed. 

    Tears are rolling down my face as he carries me to the hospital wing. I try not to cry but it hurts so bad. I feel like my leg is going to burn off my body.  

“Mason…” I manage to say in between sobs. 

“He’s on his way.. He will be here soon” Maximus sets me down on a hospital bed and says he will be right outside if I need him. Dr. Falls starts looking me over. 

“Looks like he got you good..” She sighs and starts cleaning the wound. I bite my lip to keep from screaming in pain. A few minutes later I can hear screaming outside. Mason is yelling at someone, I think it’s Maximus. I can’t make out what they are saying but I know it’s heated. The door bursts open and Mason runs to my side. 

“Thank God you're alright” 

“Did they find the wolf?” I ask through gritted teeth. 

    Mason stiffens and sighs, “No. Alex chased it to the border and into the Eastern territories before it disappeared on him. I will send a search party out tonight, which I will lead. We will find him. I won’t stop until I find him. Troy is going to stay here to guard you while I am gone. You will be safe. I promise I will keep you safe, no matter what”  He tells me. I feel like I’ve heard this before. I want to believe him, so badly. But I can’t deny the fact that I’m terrified. 

“Alpha.. There is a Jameson at the order, requesting permission for him and his Mate”  A guard says from the door. 

“Let them in” Mason says without hesitation, I look at him in shock.  I can’t believe after what happened he would just let him walk in here. 

“Why?” I ask him, I need to distract myself from the pain as the Dr finishes cleaning and dressing the wound. 

“Let’s see what he wants.. It might not be bad” He holds my hand as Dr. Falls places the bandage on my thigh. I wince as she puts pressure on it. 

“I’m keeping you overnight. I want to make sure it doesn’t get infected” 

“Alright.. Can I get something for the pain at least?” 

“Let me check on your bloodwork first.. It should be back any minute” She disappears from the room. 

“How bad is the pain, Love?” 

“It really hurts.. But I can handle it..” I say as I readjust myself on the bed. 

    Mason sits in the chair beside me and we wait for Dr Falls to come back with my pain medicine. Ten minutes later she comes back in the room. 

“I’m sorry for the wait, Luna, Alpha… Unfortunately I cannot give you anything for the pain. Luna, you are pregnant. I’d say about six weeks.. I’ll leave you two to talk” 

 “Mason… I…”I start to apologize when he pulls me into his arms. 

“I’m so happy Rain” He sounds excited, maybe he’s being serious. 

“You’re not upset?” I pull my head back to look him in the eyes. 

‘Of course not. How could I possibly be upset about a child?” 

“Alpha.. There is a Jameson here to see Luna” a guard tells us. 

“Do you want to see him or wait until tomorrow?” Mason asks me. 

“I need a robe first” I say as I gesture to the thin bed sheet covering my body. He jumps up and goes to the dresser against the wall and pulls out some clothing. Once I’m dressed he goes out and calls in my brother. 

“Hey kiddo… It’s good to see you. Are you alright?” Jamie comes in, followed by Evan. 

“I’m okay..” I say awkwardly. 

“I’m sorry to show up unexpectedly.. But.. well I have something to tell you both...”He sighs and takes a seat. Evan stands beside him and rubs his shoulders. 

“What is it?” I ask hesitantly. Mason sits on the edge of my bed with his arms crossed. 

“I’m not so sure you want to hear this. Maybe I should speak with Mason in private?” Jamie suggests. 

“Just tell me what’s going on!” I yell at him. 

Mason stays silent beside me. Jamie looks uncomfortable but he starts to speak. 

“I overheard mom and dad after you left. They were really shook. They were confused as to why you showed up. After all these years. After what they did. I overheard mom saying that she was worried he was going to come after the pack again. Dad said he would take care of it. That’s when I confronted them. At first they wouldn’t say anything but after pushing on them they admitted that your disappearance was not an accident. They sold you to a pack of rogues in return for them to stay away from our pack. The deal was they sell you off to them and they steer clear of our land. Keeping us safe from future attacks. It worked for years, but then you got rescued by Mason and their deal went away after that. They started to attack the borders and its been getting worse” He explains. 

I am speechless, I stare at him not knowing what to say.
