CHAPTER 5

1438 Words
As usual after dinner, Ava and James would usually stay the night, but Ava doubted if she could sleep in the same bed as James. After dinner, Derek called James and Liam to his study while Ava decided to go to the room as they usually stay in on their visit. Ava already had some nightwear from her previous visits and was about to take off her gown when the door opened without any knock. Thinking it was James, she said without looking, "I will stay on the couch, while you can take the bed." "So you are really serious about your divorce?" Ava turned when she heard her mother-in-law's voice, "Mother." "You can't divorce James, at least not right now." Meredith said softly. Ava was surprised by Meredith's soft tone; it felt like the woman who had spoken to her at the dining table and the woman speaking to her now were two different people. Did something else happen after she left the living room? "It's our personal matter." Ava replied, not ready to discuss her personal issues with Meredith, regardless of what version she currently is. "It is not your personal matter if my son's life is at stake. For some reason, my husband is fond of you, and if you and James get divorced before James is named Derek's heir, then it will affect the company's stocks." "Company stock?" Ava asked with a laugh. "Just say you need me to help James come up with a proposal for the clients coming from abroad. I agree that I haven't given James a child, but you and I both know that it was actually I who wrote all his proposals, and all he did was read them and then get all the praise, but I have never minded because his success was also my success." "Do you think that my son can't run Haines Technology without your help? You definitely think too highly of yourself?" "Do I? Then should I go tell father that the real brain behind Haines Technology has always been me. That I was the one who made every proposal that brought in your so-called top investors today." "Ava!" "Do not raise your voice at me!" Ava shouted and then sighed, "James cheated on me with Hailey, and now she is carrying his child." Ava said and then frowned when she saw the expression on Meredith's face. "You don't look surprised." "James already told me everything, and I was the one who gave him the idea of letting you raise Hailey's child as your own." Meredith said. "And yet you behaved as if you knew nothing." Meredith looked at Ava for a few seconds and then said, "I do not like you, Ava, and I know you do not like me either, but I also know you love my son. Will you really end five years of marriage just because of one mistake?" "Mistake? A mistake is something you do once and regret it. A mistake is definitely not telling your wife I love you in the morning of your anniversary and then screwing her friend in the afternoon." "You are exaggerating. Do you think that if I had thought the same way you did, that I would still be married to the most powerful man in this country?" "Why wouldn't you think I'm exaggerating? You were once a mistress before you became a wife. Maybe that's why you and Hailey get along so well." Ava said bitterly to Meredith, and the next thing she received was a slap to her right cheek. "You are nothing without my son, and you know this. You want to get a divorce? Then go ahead and do so, but if my son suffers any setback because of you, then I will make sure you and your entire family suffer. I will destroy you, Ava, and when you look back and realize that you are all alone in this world, your solution would be to take your worthless life." Ava glared with heavy breath and did not say anything. Meredith's gaze turned cold as she said, "Accept Hailey's child as your own, and I will ensure that you never see Hailey again. And this isn't a request. James may have made you feel that you have a choice in the matter, but I am telling you that you don't. You should be lucky that my son has found a way to end your five years of childlessness and instead of you thanking him, you are here whining about it. I blame your mother, who taught you nothing before she died." Ava's nails dug into her palms as she watched Meredith leave, and her eyes burned with unshed tears. Furiously cleaning the tears that had managed to escape from her eyes, Ava went out of the room, desperate to get some fresh air. Ava wandered outside the mansion, the cool breeze brushing against her skin. Just as she was about to head back inside, she froze. A faint light glowed from the small house set apart from the mansion. She remembered the place as always being dark and abandoned and had once asked James about it, but he only frowned and told her it wasn’t important. Curious about who might be there, Ava walked to the small house, and when she entered, she was surprised to see Liam, holding a photo frame. Liam shifted his gaze from the photo frame to Ava, who stood awkwardly at the door. He set the frame back into one of the cardboard boxes that lay in the house and asked, "Is this your first time being here?" "I...I should go." Ava said, ready to leave when she heard his voice again. "I didn't know you were James's wife." Ava scoffed and turned to look at him. "Really? You didn't seem surprised either." "You are right; I wasn't surprised." Liam said softly and began walking towards her, his eyes sparked up with amusement as Ava took a step back and her back hit the door. Liam placed a hand above her head, trapping her with his arms, while his other hand caressed her lips, just like last time, as he whispered, "I didn't seem surprised because after you left, I couldn't forget you. I could still hear your moans; I could still feel your body trembling under me, and before I knew it, I began tracking the girl who has made me become so addicted to her." Ava stared into the blue eyes that had also invaded her thoughts, but she knew this was impossible, "Last night was a mistake, and it's best we end things here." Liam ignored her and captured her lips with his; he held her two hands to the wall as he kept kissing her hungrily, as if he had been starved of her lips. His kisses felt so sweet that Ava didn't even know the time she started responding to his kisses. Her head was telling her that what she was doing was wrong, but her body was saying otherwise, craving the touch of this man who was also her husband's brother. As they kissed, Liam hand went to her thigh, and he slowly caressed it before moving his hand upward. He broke their kiss, and his eyes watched her as if she were the only thing in the world. He released her hand and then slowly pulled down her underwear, breathing it in and then tucking it into his pocket. Ava watched his actions with desire in her eyes, and she became eager about what he was going to do next. "Turn around." Liam ordered with a dark gaze. Quickly obeying him, Ava turned around, pressing her body to the door, not caring that she was about to do sinful things with her brother-in-law, in her parents-in-law's house. Right now, her only thought was to have Liam, and luckily, she didn't have to wait long. A gasp left her lips as Liam raised up her gown, and the next thing she felt was a slap on her butt. "Liam." Ava moaned his name softly after his fourth hit, causing a chuckle from Liam, and the next thing she heard was the sound of his zipper. Ava moaned in anticipation, and the moment she felt him in her, her eyes closed in ecstasy. It was as if her body had been missing something but had now found its missing piece. Liam kissed her neck, enjoying the lovely sound coming from her mouth, and as he brought her to her release, he bit her earlobe and whispered, "Be mine, Ava."
