Chapter 8

Two days later

“Felicia, it’s time to go, we’re going to be late,” Ezerette called. Today was the day they had to visit the military barracks and start the training of the special unit. “Hmm? Oh, I’m coming.” Ever since the incident with Felicia’s ex-boyfriend ended, she had been out of it. Maybe it was because of the long time they spent together and the ‘great memories’ they made. Felicia shook her head and decided to call Mara. After dialling a few times, a groggy voice finally sounded through lazily. “What? What do you want now???”

“Why aren’t you awake yet? Hurry and wake up,” Felicia laughed, picking up the cereal while squeezing the phone between her shoulder and ear. “What? Wake up? Wake up??? Are you insane? Do you know what time it is?” She said, her voice becoming clear by the second.

“It’s 5:00 am, so what?”

“So wha-? You know what? Forget it, it’s hopeless arguing with you,” Mara huffed out, feeling totally annoyed.

“Alright, enough jokes. Tell me, what did you find? How is he?” Felicia asked curiously. She was actually very interested in the guy. After all, the passing remark made by Nathan when she was almost off the training grounds was…………… intriguing.

“Honestly? The guy is unpredictable,” Mara dropped the bomb so casually that at first Felicia blinked and then realised what Mara was saying. That easy going sentence that was said was what frustrated Felicia even more. But she maintained her composure and asked again. She had to be patient. She promised herself not to headfirst into things, so the first thing she had to do was listen to her friend talking bulls**t. For now, at least. Who knows? She might seen something useful, after all. She took a deep breath.

“Explain.”

“Well, at first I thought he was the cold and calculating type, but then he became really cute and teasing. I mean he had the face to do it. Pretty handsome if I say so myself…………” That was it. Mara was off in her dreamy men’s land.

“Focus, Mara, focus,” Felicia said. She picked up her empty bowl and put it in the sink. She hadn’t taken much in the first place, so it was obvious that she was going to finish it quickly. “Right. Sorry, my bad. After he started becoming a tease to his sister, his grandpa dragged him out of the place by grabbing his ear. Honestly after that, my impression of him after that became pretty pathetic. Felt second-hand embarrassment looking at him, girl,” she breathed out all at once.

In the meantime, Ezerette was already outside and honking loudly. Felicia quickly grabbed her bag which was stuffed with special equipment for the guys. “Alright, then. Thanks for telling me. I have to go now. Ez is waiting outside.”

“Yeah, bye.” They both cut the call at the same time and while one was hurrying out to get to her new-found job, the other went ahead and yawned, dozing straight to sleep.

Ezerette’s car, which was pretty much provided by the military, was efficient as well as quite the looker. Felicia looked at the interior, which was designed for emergency purposes, and was fascinated by it. The whole thing was convenient, both inside and out.

“Hey, you think they will give a similar one to me? Or is that impossible? Felicia questioned, tracing her slender fingers over the soft and think covering of the gear.

“Well, it’s hard to get. I only got it because of my awards and stuff, but even at my rank it’s pretty rare to have it. I’m pretty special, you see.” Ezerette winked, trying to impress her sister. Felicia chuckled ad ruffled her ash blonde hair fondly. “Yeah, it is. Even more so, since you’re younger than me,” Ezerette’s eyes sparkled and she grinned. “Of course, I’m the best,” she heaved out, proud of her sister complimenting her. She had always loved attention from Felicia since she was always so aloof. She was so cold towards other people and almost never talked to them. It had become better with time but the only one she could be so relaxed around was Ezerette. Because Felicia only let her guard down so much with her, it made Ezerette feel………….special. After about 45 minutes, they arrived at the place, all while laughing, giggling, and enjoying a peaceful conversation.
