Chapter 6

1182 Words
Noah was dead tired, but he kept up his composure, exuding a slight coldness. Sunlight fell through the windows, lighting up the atmosphere of the meeting. The air around the place was cold and lonely, and the staring session of the father towards the son had gone on long enough. Many assistants of every respective departments were getting tired. Their eyes kept opening and closing, and one of them almost yawned in front of one of the company CEO. The other leaders noticed that but let it go unnoticed. They just weren’t bothered to care anymore. Figures. After all, it was one of the longest meetings he had ever been to. It was not easy to sit up straight, let alone stand properly and hand out documents from time to time. Noah yawned, loud enough to purposely attract attention. His father glared at him sharply, but he ignored it. He wanted to get out of there because he didn’t want to deal with this. That jerk. He was a total i***t. All of this had happened due to him. But not because of his venomous scandals, oh no, they were too common, not because of his usual bar fights, oh no, they were too boring now, but because of leaking military secrets that concerned the nation’s safety. After all, the people’s safety was their priority. That’s right, this company was home to one of the largest military family in the entire world. They were also famous for their fashion clothesline managed by Liliana Maxwell, Noah’s mother. And right again. Noah James Maxwell, the ninth generation of the Maxwell Group, was the inheritor to this entire fortune. “What have you done? Do you have any idea how many resources I’ve used to prevent the leakage? You bastard!!” Noah’s father, the current CEO, was fuming with rage. Although it wasn’t shown on his stone cold face, it was obvious from his tone. He was neither screaming nor had he lost his composure. But he was probably dying to strangle his son’s neck and c***k his head open to see what kind of thoughts were running through that thick skull of his. The other executives flinched slightly, but Noah just shrugged. It seemed Like the father and son duo were on shaky terms. Meanwhile, the secretaries just averted their gazes. For them, the décor of the room was much more interesting than the tense air of the room. Coincidentally Mara was one of them. But for her, it wasn’t an accident to be one of the assistants. She had purposely asked her father, and had insisted on going to this hellish place. Of course she had a reason. It was all because of Felicia. She had requested her to investigate the last person in her class. But at that moment she was cursing her friend harshly. She never asked to be stuck in his boring place. It was all her fault. While being placed in this position, she had also started noticing the gorgeous interior design, where this gathering was scheduled. While everyone was busy dealing with this ignorant fool, Mara had started looking around, starting from behind her. White and black vectors were all over the walls, making the place seem brand - new. When she looked up, she glanced at the baby blue hue that was mixed in with the fairly white ceiling. The contrast created this sense of warmth in the room that could only be felt, not seen. The outer colours of the sound proof glass doors had a mixture of royal blue and white with light and pretty shaped marbles, giving it the quiet theme of the ocean. The sight became much more nicer with a hint of modernity, with the chairs placed in a way that complemented the design features. It was as pretty as a painting.    Although it was meant to create a minimising effect, it was pretty much the thing that was suffocating everyone in this room. The table. And of course the one sitting right in the middle of it. James Maxwell was indeed a force to be reckoned with. With just two to three sentences, he had already forced his subordinates on to a corner. “So what?” Suddenly Mara shivered. She had never heard such a cold yet playful tone of voice. It was coming from the man twirling on his chair, sitting at the opposite of the table from James, trying his best to balance a blue pen on his sharp and fair nose. The eyebrows on James’s face twitched. His complexion was becoming worse by the second. Mara felt goose bumps all over her body. She didn’t like where this was going. As if God had heard her from somewhere, the doors flung open, and in came an old man. “You are exactly right!! It is indeed none of your business!! James, you handle this. I know you can do it!!” Suddenly, an old man walked through the door. He held a black walking stick with intricate gold carvings in his wrinkly hand, and was also quite the looker. Although he had white hair, there was no doubt that he was a fit man. His face was bright and looked quite healthy, although he had this mysterious air about him. “Dad, why….are you here?” James was barely holding onto that one string of sanity attached to him. “Hm? Oh, I’m just here to take Noah back.” “Why.. why are you doing that?” James hated defying his dad. Not only because it scared him, but also because he loved him a lot. “Why? Because of the new trainer that has come, obviously. I’ve heard she is just like that little girl Ezerette, but much mature. She even taught the boys a lesson, I’m sure she will be a lovely woman and teacher.” At that sentence spoken by his grandfather, Noah’s ears perked up. He immediately stood up, and decided to head to his grandpa’s side. “Then what are we waiting for?” He winked at his grandpa, and secretly gave him a thumbs up, happy that he could get out of this situation. Obviously, James had noticed that, and clenched his fists. Straight after that, he put his middle finger up, that was only visible to him, Noah, and his father. Their childishness was beyond stupid. Two grown men were fighting like this, of course Jonas had to notice that. It was their usual thing, of course he would notice. He frowned, but kept up his appearances. “Grandpa, can you please tell them to stop being so childish? How can both father and son be like this?” At that moment, an elegant woman appeared, chasing away everyone’s worries, bringing about a much brighter atmosphere to the place.
