Marlese was dressed and ready to go when Bo and I returned. She wore a red and gold African print dress with her micro braids tied up into a ponytail, and she was radiant. She looked just like her mother with her bright black eyes and infectious smile.
I won’t say that Darvin looked raggedy next to her in his Hawaiian shirt. No, I won’t say that, but I was sure thinking it.
I stood on the back porch with Malcolm tugging at my ear as Marlese gave me a long list of things to do and not do with Malcolm. I kissed her goodbye and reveled in the moment when they walked out the door to catch their ride-share in the alley.
