CHAPTER TEN I landed in another alley with a thud and a roll, adding dirt and gravel stains to my already weathered gabardine. The stitch to the spirit world spun like a pinwheel before disappearing. A mélange of sunlight and shadow settled around me. I lay on the ground for a few moments, looking up at crisscrossing telephone wires. The smell of rotten trash from a nearby dumpster hit me, fetid and rotten. I sat up and rested against a brick wall as a car horn blared in the distance.
