CHAPTER FOURTEEN Bo was sitting at the kitchen table with Malcolm when I entered. The kitchen still smelled like syrup and pancakes. “Jesus, boss man, you look like hell,” Bo said. “Don’t ask me what I feel like,” I said. Malcolm made grabby hands for me, but I didn’t take him. When he realized it, he pouted, then broke into a full cry. “Is Marlese home?” I asked. Marlese walked into the kitchen from the front hallway. The front door was open.
