“Ana how are you?”
A calm familiar voice said. She knew before turning that it was Kai. He was the only one who could send waves of calm throughout her whole body. She loved being near him. It was as if she felt at home. Even if apart of her was attached to the forest. She knew that she needed to be apart of something bigger. Which for her right now was exploring the mortals.
“Kai.” Squealed Ana as she turned pulling him into a hug breathing him in.
The sun just began peaking over the hills waves of light bouncing off the waters reflection. Kai’s hazel eyes looking like a flame in the sun. Ana looked up at him through her eye lashes wanting to savor every fleeting moment before she would need to return home.
Kai knowing that Ana could never stay long. Though he never asked why. He always wondered what she was always off doing or where she might be going. But he knew not to ask that the answers would reveal themselves within time.
Ana sat back down near the river motioning for Kai to join her. He sat down resting his back against a tree. Ana leaned against him making sure to become one with him and not touch the tree. Ana and Kai watched as the morning light painted a beautiful pink and purple canvas across the sky. Ana wanted desperately to stay to spend more time with Kai. But she knew that if she didn’t return she would risk being punished by her mother.
Ana got lost in her own thoughts not realizing that Kai had been speaking to her until she felt a gentle nudge. Kai cleared his throat.
“Ana, I’ve loved our morning adventures getting to watch the sunrise with you. But I want more. I need more! Please find a way to come see me so we can actually spend time together.”
Ana looked off into the distance. Not knowing how to respond. She desperately wanted what Kai was offering. Needed it in fact. She wasn’t sure how much more she would be able to take. The longing not only for Kai but for the mortals. She needed to quench her thirst for knowledge and to see what was out there.
Kai looked longingly into Ana’s eyes searching for an answer. He knew never might exist. When finally Ana answered.
“Kai I will do everything in my power to meet you here tonight. As the sunsets on the furthest hill I will be here waiting.”
With that Ana stood and Kai watched as the light hit her golden curls just right. He felt warm all over, he couldn’t wait for tonight. He was actually getting to go out with Ana. A thousands thought raced through his mind. But, the one that stuck out the most was . . . ‘What will we even do?’
