This voice instantly takes me out of my… a bit special state.
It's the emperor!
What is he doing here?

Wait… Wasn't I supposed to follow him? So why am I smoking blunts on the shoulder of the hippie who became the bad master of hell?
And…
I shiver… I have at the same time a good and a bad question arising in my mind…
The bad question is, what is in this cake and these blunts to even affect a rank 5 mage whose body is supposed to be insensible to most things! I mean is there something as powerful as my magic-reinforced c******s concoction in this world? And it just worked by a close margin on the emperor! That thing is different from the concoction I used to d**g the emperor, I'm sure that even if I was at rank 6 it would still be affecting me!
And the good question is, what's in this cake and these blunts v2! My rank shot up from rank 5 to rank 7 by smoking for one hour! I learned part of the law of addiction! At what point does a d**g need to be strong to make me so addict that I even understood part of a law without going through rank 6, the actual learning phase???
The ability to understand laws allows you to use them in special ways. It doesn't just change your knowledge but actually changes your soul.
Usually, learning a law is something very hard that few can do, and it requires intense studying under great conditions to even be able of understanding a few percent of a law. Rank 6 is supposed to be the rank people have when they reached the requirements to learn laws and are in the process of learning a small law.
A law is more powerful when its source is more widespread. For example, there might be a law of drugs, but it in raw power clearly is weaker than a law of water. Small laws are these minor laws with very rare sources, which makes them easy to understand.
When one learned a small law or the equivalent percentage of a bigger law, their power reaches rank 7. As far as I know, in this world, there aren't many addicted people, but seeing how I'm at rank 7 after learning just part of the law, I don't doubt there are many addicted people I just never knew of.
What I don't doubt however is that I learned my first law in a pretty unexpected way…

But now that I have a law, I see things…
For example, I have the addiction law. I can see almost anything related to addiction because I understand perfectly how it works and its consequences. I can see the traces left by alcohol, s*x, and c******s on and inside his body!
I just have to focus a bit, manipulate…

I found traces of alcohol and various other drugs inside his body that weren't eliminated completely by his organism and activated everything at once. And one overdose, one!
I sit, I'm a bit tired.

The emperor wakes up, and I making sure to quickly disappear from his field of view.
After rank 4, the mana in the air is replaced by soul strength because it's a necessity. One wants to keep their independence and as such voluntarily stop using it.
Be it during or totally learning a law, rank 6 and higher are still able to use the strength of their soul. They just prefer to use laws when they can because it is stronger!
And, be it my law or my soul strength, both are able to hide me from a rank 5 emperor.
