Chapter 10

-Nate Van Warner POV- Ugh! It’s morning already? I got up already and did some stretches after brushing my teeth. I wonder If Athena is already awake by now. Or if she read my note already and ate the breakfast I ordered for her. I went to open my door, rubbing my eyes, when I heard someone gasped. I’m not the one who gasped definitely. I could tell. In front of me stood Athena Vanderbilt, her brown eyes widened in surprise and her left hand clamped to her mouth. “What on earth are you doing here at this hour?!” I exclaimed. Her still-wide eyes move down to my chest and her expression turned weird. I looked down on my own chest. Okay. I get it. -Athena Vanderbilt POV- OH MY GOSH! I’m not seeing it! I’m not seeing it! I’m not seeing a thing! But as a matter of fact, I can see it! Darn it! His chest is perfectly chiseled, the kind of thing you expect from handsome players. He’s not really that kind of frightening muscular I see in magazines but…oh gosh. I could see his six-pack. They look…awesome. So masculine. I wonder what’s it’s like to touch them? They could be so…hard. Okay, Athena, STOP. You’re having perverted thoughts. And that’s not awesome. Again, why does he sleep with no shirt on?! “Earth to Warden? Hello? Is Athena there?” Nate muttered, his light blue eyes staring right through me. “NATHANIEL!” I yelled and he raised his eyebrows in response. I didn’t look away because he seemed to be enjoying so much if I’ll be uncomfortable with his get-up. “What’s with you for yelling?” he asked me, his hand leaning on the door. “Don’t you dare sleep shirtless again when I’ll come over!” I said, my hands balled into fists. “Ooh. Why?” he muttered as he folded his arms on his perfect chest. I swallowed, “Because I don’t want it. Problem?” “Yes, I do have a problem with that. I have my own right to wear whatever I want to sleep. Or if I ever want to wear anything at all.” he protested. Talk about human rights. Is that even applicable to him? “Gross. Well whatever.” I muttered as I waved my hand dismissively. He suddenly grabbed me by the hand and pulled me closer to his chest as his other hand slammed his bedroom door shut. “What are you doing?!” I bellowed. I could feel his hard chest on mine and they feel so…hard. So tough. Also, I realized he’s so much taller than me. He still hasn’t let go of my hand and I’m trying my best to get out of his grasp. He let go of my hand and looked at me with those electrifying blue eyes, smirking. “What?” I muttered, taking a step back. He takes a step closer, looking at me in some weird seductive way. I take another step back while holding out my right hand, “Stop this, Nathaniel! I’m serious!” Okay. So I’m inside his bedroom. I’m in his lair. Goodness! How could I be so careless to enter his domain?! He smiled sweetly as he take another step forward, “What am I going to stop, Warden? I’m not even doing anything.” “Don’t play dumb. You know exactly what you are doing! I bet you do that all the time with your girls before!” I muttered, taking another two steps back. He won’t do anything to that extent, right? I mean, he’s a player and all but he won’t do that to me, right? He’s pretty much nice to me. Right? “Tell me then what am I doing.” He cooed, taking more steps closer and I can’t help but feel a little nervous. My heart thudded faster than usual and I could feel beads of sweat forming on my face. I take another step back but the back of my knees hit the wooden edge of his bed and now I fell over his bed. Wow. It’s all soft. Before I could even get up, Nate slammed down his hands on my both sides, my legs in between his. How the hell did he hover above me so fast?! He was leaning so close to me, so close that our faces are only inches apart. His light blue eyes are staring at me and I can’t even take away my eyes from his stare. I could feel on my face the air he was exhaling. We are both breathing heavily. Gosh, what is he planning?! It feels like we’ve been in that position for hours and I could, now really feel the intensity of his stare. I just couldn’t look away. “Warden, you should know better than to enter your boyfriend’s room. Very brave.” He said in that same seductive cooing voice. “You pulled me in here.” I reminded him in a low voice, still finding my voice. He gave mean innocently seductive smile, “Really? What now? We’re all alone in my bedroom and the door is locked.” I tried to swallow a small lump forming in my throat. I’m stucked. “I trust you. You won’t do anything.” I whispered. I was feeling all nervous. I mean, this is the first time this kind of thing happened to me! He started leaning closer and closer… Oh my gosh! Don’t tell me he’s going to kiss me?! I need to go away! Move your body, Athena! Get up! But I can’t. My heart is beating so wildly that my mind doesn’t even work right. I squeezed my eyes tight shut and balled my fists and waited for whatever next to happen. Then I heard him laughing and my eyes flew open. He isn’t hovering above me anymore but there he is at the foot of the bed, sitting and laughing to his heart’s content. He’s teasing me?! I stretched then popped my knuckles. Someone’s going to get a beating he deserves. -Nate Van Warner POV- HAHAHA! I laughed and laughed and laughed. That moment was priceless! She closed her eyes and probably thought I’ll kiss her. She looked so tense and so afraid. Well, for a moment there too, I thought I’m gonna do that. Well, if you’re so close to a girl like that, you wouldn’t probably think twice, considering we’re under an intense staring game. But I restrained myself. Athena isn’t like the girls I dated before. She’s a good girl A very good one. She said she trusts me and that solved everything. But I really had fun teasing her! -Athena Vanderbilt POV- I gritted through my teeth as I stood on the bed, the biggest pillow at hand and tiptoed to the edge. I was about to him hard and get revenge when he suddenly stood up and wrapped his arms tight around my waist and slung me over his shoulder, like I’m some sweater. I pummeled his back with all my strength and I could feel the hard masculine muscles. “Put me down, rich boy!” I yelled as he paced around his room. “No-oh-oh.” He teased in a humming tune as he went out of his room and into the living room. Gosh! This is embarrassing! The maids we passed are all looking at us weirdly. I might have been giggling if we were really a couple and if he is truly the boyfriend who likes me for real and asked me out but no. He continued to dance and ran in circles around the living room, not minding that I’m currently on his shoulder. What the hell? Am I like some feather to him? Doesn’t he feel I’m heavy at all? I’m freaking 119 pounds for crying out loud! “Put me down! Put me down! Put me down!” I yelled as I continued hitting his back with my fists. “You think you’ll be able to hit me by my pillow, warden? Well, revenge on me might be harder than you think.” he asked me as he whistled on his way to the large fridge in the pristine kitchen. “How did you know?!” I gasped. “It might have escaped your notice but there’s a huge mirror in front of my bed.” He explained as he started drinking juice straight from the carton. Oh. So that was it. I never noticed it. Darn it. He’s so annoying! He’s annoying me so much I want to punch him in the face! “Do you mind putting me down?” I asked him, feeling a bit dizzy from all the pirouetting he did. “Yes I mind.” he said as he went back to the living room. I heard footsteps approaching and I lifted my head to look. Mr. Charles entered the room and chuckled at the sight of us. “Oh there you are son.” He said as he gave his son a filial hug, probably not noticing that his son’s girlfriend is hanging over his shoulder. He turned around to walk away to one of the rooms. “Ah, Nate, you might bother to put Ms. Athena down or it might be her turn to puke on you this time.” With that, he walked away. WHAT?! He even know about my first meeting with Nate?! What the hell. Is he some know-it-all?! Nate snorted and he gently lifted me off his shoulder. I touched my belly and took a few deep breaths. That hurt. I really felt like vomiting. God! This guy is really annoying me now! ARRRRRGH! He walked over the wide LCD screen to turn it on as a maid laid down a whole cake on the long mahogany table. It looks yummy, with all the cookies, nuts and white icing on top. I quickly removed the Jack Purcell sneakers I’ve been wearing. They were my parents’ gift for my sixteenth birthday but that didn’t matter right now. I’m determined to get back on him! I grabbed the right one and threw it, hoping for bull’s eye. WHOOSH! It hit his head! I’m so good! Well, that probably came from darting so much when I was a child. He turned around only to smirk at me after he picked up my shoe. “You want this game, warden, huh?” He had that particular smug and evil smirk on his face as he held out my shoe. -Nate Van Warner POV- So Athena wants to play this game, huh? Let’s see if she can stand it if her opponent is me. “Hello, Father.” I said, looking at some invisible person on her back. She actually fell for my trap and looked behind her and I took the chance to fill my two hands with the sticky white icing of the cake on the table and immediately hid them at my back. “Where’s your dad?” she asked, her pretty brown eyes eyeing me suspiciously. “Nowhere.” I smiled innocently as I walked towards her. “You’re weird, you know that?” she told me, shaking her head. Okay, Nate. ATTACK! “Yeah, warden! I’m a weirdo!” I chirped as I quickly touched her full face with my icing-coated hands. “Aaaaaaaaaah!” she yelled. I swiftly ran away to the kitchen to avoid her hitting me. She turned around so I could see her face. OH! Seriously! HAHAHA! I can’t stop laughing. It’s like she putting a show as a clown, considering her face is all white and only her brown eyes are the distinct feature in her face. “Okay, rich boy! I had enough! GAME ON!” she yelled as she charged towards me. When she finally reached me, she started kicking my legs and hitting my chest with her fists. I can’t move because I was laughing too much. She looks like a little silly child with that icing on her face! “YOU-ANNOYING-RICH-BRAT!” She shouted in between hits. Okay. Stop laughing now. HAHAHA! But I can’t. She looks so funny! I let my arms become shield and she suddenly held my wrists tightly only to put my own hands to my face. Okay. Great. “There, rich boy. Now we’re both icing-coated.” She laughed. I gave her a deadly smile and her smile faded. “Now it’s really on, warden.” -Athena Vanderbilt POV- Nate ran swiftly towards the huge double-door refrigerator and I instinctively held the cake in my hands. Is this going to be a food fight? If it is going to be one, then why do I have a feeling I’m gonna lose? Food is important and valuable. It shouldn’t be thrown around like garbage. Millions of people out there have nothing to eat and here I am, engaging in a food fight. Besides, it’s never right to play with food. I shook my head. No. I won’t tolerate his childishness. This is wrong. My mother taught me well not to play with food. “Warden!” Then suddenly, I felt a cool feeling on my dress and a familiar sour smell that is best served with French fries. I looked down on my thin white shirt only to see a huge splatter of bright red tomato catsup. Nate was chuckling in front of me, a big plastic bottle at hand. “Athena, you should be more alert during a war. Your namesake is the goddess of warfare.” He muttered, holding his stomach and probably aching from laughing so much. “Shut up.” I muttered as I laid the cake and wiped my shirt with the tissue paper on the table. “Ooh. You mad?” he said. I wasn’t looking at him but I could tell from his tone that he’s enjoying this so much. “I’m not fighting with food.” I stated in a firm voice, noticing the overwhelming smell of catsup. “Okay. That’s too bad though.” He said in bogus remorse as he got out a big Tupperware from the fridge. “This is soiled already so don’t worry.” He reminded me as he opened it and a big chunk of lasagna was flying towards me. I didn’t have time to dodge away so it ended up on my face and neck. Ugh! Gross! “Still not going to fight me?” Nate teased as he smiled cruelly at me over the counter. I charged towards him and pretended to slipped on the marble floor. “Ouch!” I cried. I was only planning to trip but I did trip and now my butt hurts. Ugh. I saw him rushed towards me, the Tupperware at hand. “Are you okay?” he said immediately as he knelt down and looked at me. I noticed him put down his defenses as he put aside the Tupperware. “I’m fine.” I said meekly as I quickly grabbed the Tupperware and threw it at his gorgeous face. Even with my butt hurting, I was able to get up and ran away. Now, his face has cake icing and lasagna. Cool of me. “Rich boy, the goddess of warfare and battle strategy maybe only my namesake but at least I’ve proven myself worthy of the name Athena.” I teased him, hiding behind the kitchen counter he was hiding in earlier. He was still silent, and now I’m wondering if I’d gotten him so mad. He turned around, and I saw his face for the first time. Now it’s my turn to non stop laughter. HAHAHA! “Warden.” He said in a sickly sweet voice as he held out his fist and flexed his knuckles. I was still laughing. “Let’s see if you can still laugh after this.” He said calmly as he picked up the cake and ran towards me in full speed. He smashed it against me and I got a taste of the sweet taste of the cake. Ugh. Gross. “Nateee! You’re so hateful!” I grumbled as I wiped it out of my face. He was now laughing again. We just both look bad. I hit him at the back, “Really! You’re annoying!” “You’re really weak when it comes to practical war.” He teased. “Shut up.” I muttered, looking at myself and wondering how I am supposed to meet Chloe later without going back to Brooklyn. “What kind of cyclone passed around here?” The voice made Nate and I both turned around. Alex and Bliss, arm-in-arm, arrived and both are looking amused at the scene. Now that I’ve noticed, catsup, cake and icing, and lasagna were splattered all over the floor. That’s why I’ve slipped a while ago. Not to mention that the sour smell catsup and the soiled lasagna was overwhelming. “Hey Alex, Bliss! I’ve just won a foodcfight! Aren’t you going to congratulate me?” Nate said, making the couple laughed. “Watch out for it, man. I see steam flaring out of Athena’s nostrils. Revenge is sweet, you know?” Alex joked. I felt myself blush slightly. The maid suddenly came in, with rags and mops, to clean the battlefield. I grabbed one rag and started wiping. “Uh no, Miss Vanderbilt. I can do this myself.” The maid stated. “Ummmm..." I just rolled my eyes and continue to help the maid. The three elite seemed to be enjoying watching me. After all was cleaned, I stood up. “You’d like to shower?” Nate asked. Bliss and Alex were already in the game room. I overheard them that they’ll be playing some weird game, Wii? What was that anyway? “Is it not obvious?” I muttered. He still hasn’t showered yet so we both look like street beggars who had gone crazy. He laughed, “Come on. I’ll show you to your room. You can shower there.” “Excuse me? What do you mean by ‘your room’?” I asked. He smiled smugly, “You’ll see.” He led me in a maze and we finally reached a wooden mahogany door. On the door itself, the name ‘Athena Vanderbilt’ was carved on the wood. He opened it and he led me in. . . . What is this? “Did you make this a room for me?” I asked in disbelief. “Yep. Don’t be so mesmerized. It’s only a minor thing. But I’ve got to say, the carpet is really expensive. There aren’t no clothes yet so just wait for me and I’ll go get you clothes.” He said as he went away, leaving me mesmerized. There was a princess bed on the left side. The walls, ceiling and floor were the color of very light brown, giving me a warm feeling. How did he know my favorite color is brown? WAIT UP. DID HE JUST SAY HE MADE A ROOM FOR ME IN THIS LUXURIOUS PENTHOUSE?! The truth made me feel like fainting. There was a gorgeous chandelier in the middle, an expensive-looking vanity table and a different room for wardrobe (but it’s still empty). There was a computer and a flat widescreen TV. There were various paintings and decors around the room and a large desk and cute brown butterfly lamp. Even the sheer curtains have Greek mythology watermarks. Nate entered the room again and handed me a t-shirt and short cargo pants. “This is boys’ clothing.” I commented, observing the stuff he gave me. “That is my clothing.” He edited what I’ve said. I stared at him, unbelieving. “What? It’s either you wear that or you don’t change. No other options, okay? Unless you prefer to wrap a towel around you until you get home.” he said. I sighed. “Alright.” I stared at him, waiting for him to leave. He stared at me back, “What?” “What what? Aren’t you going to leave me alone first? Or are you so perverted you want to watch me shower?” I muttered. “Now that you’ve suggested it…” he teased. “Ugh. Shut up. You’re so perverted really.” I grumbled, pushing him out of the door. “Okay.” He laughed as he stepped out and walked down the hallway. I shook my head, feeling like going crazy on how did my world became like this. I’ve been dating the hottest and most eligible bachelor, tasted the first food he ever made, had a very good bedroom in the most expensive penthouse ever. To top all that, I’m going to wear the clothes of the hot New York prince. Oh my, a lot of girls are going to die of envy.
