Chapter 2 After Divina got home, she barely ate before opening her laptop browser. Thank goodness her mother convinced her to install the internet just as she moved in, or college and research would have been a terrible thing to come by. Divina glanced at the clock briefly and decided she would be on her laptop in the kitchen, where she could make some dinner and keep an eye out on it so that nothing burns down. She started researching the effects that having very real dreams could have. Of course, they were not on the same page, the researchers and her, but she glanced through a few articles anyway. "Brain scientists aren't sure why humans dream in the first place, but they think it has something to do with memory. Dreaming might help the brain eliminate any unnecessary information or memories while processing and storing what's important. Some people feel more refreshed after having slept and dreamed, even if they do not remember dreaming. People are most likely to remember the last dream they've had in their sleep cycle. But it's possible to remember a vivid dream long after it's occurred if it seemed very intense. Vivid dreams can be positive or negative, realistic or fantasy," she read a few articles on Healthline. And after a while, when she didn't get many answers in the articles, she switched to interviews. And then the fantastic loop of the videos began where she started watching and watching and could not pull herself away from the laptop. This made her sleepy after a while and, after her body's failed attempt to warn her about its need to sleep, she started wearing off and closed her eyes for just a little while. She knew she closed her eyes, but she also knew she was still conscious and aware of her surroundings. It was like she could still feel and hear everything around her, she could smell the food that she was frying on the stove. She was also aware of the noises, like that lousy tap that had been leaking all throughout the week, but neither her nor her mom remembered long enough for one of them to actually fix the annoying thing. Even though she knew that she was still conscious, something felt different. It might have been the tranquillity of the entire ordeal, but she knew that she had to be close to falling asleep. It was that feeling that you had when you were in high school, and you were dozing off after you had just written an exam, like you were very sleepy, but you know that you can not fully fall asleep, because if you do, you will have drooled all over your face and people will notice, and they will start to laugh at the situation. Yet, it also felt different. Testing the limits of her mind, Divina felt like she was pushing against a barrier. Like she was stuck and could not move to go anywhere. Like she was physically unable to move. How very odd. Mentally, she knew what she was explaining to herself was basically impossible, unheard of really from a mentally sane person, but physically she felt the need to push against whatever was pinning her to the spot. Testing her senses one last time-smell: Check (It smelled amazing. She loved fried chicken); hearing: Check (She could make out the faint 'tap...tap...tap' sound coming from the broken tap she had been promising herself she would fix... eventually) - She gave a forceful mental shove at the barrier keeping her in place. Only to find herself in a very, very unfamiliar place. She had this weird zing in her ears like someone just fired a g*n next to her ears, so she could not hear anything. She was swarmed with her other senses, though. It looked like she was in some sort of... Cabin? Scrunching up her nose, she ran a hand against the smooth contours of the exotic wood that decorated the one wall closest to her. Her eyes wandered over the unique textures and patterns that seemed to be carved into the woodwork. She definitely did not have anything looking like that at home. It was all very expensive and antique looking. So where was she and where did all of these objects come from? She moved slowly and carefully along the edges of the cabin, drinking in the unique feeling of being in another place. It felt like she had stepped into a novel or a movie scene. The cabin was laid out beautifully, everything had a place in the room like it just belonged there. Of course it belonged, she lectured herself. The only thing that was out of place here was her. She did not belong, and she knew she had to leave. But how does one leave if you do not know how you stumbled into this place to begin with, she had to ask herself. She was about to try her original way of entering, to just try and mentally break free of the place, when a rush of sound came to her. It felt like a vacuum, and she was sucked into a room of noises and sounds all at one time. It took her a while before voices came to her, and it took her a little while longer to realise that they were in the same room as her. "The barrier has been intruded. We are trying to find the source..." the person across the room from her stopped mid-sentence when he saw her glued to the spot. Taking a cautious step back when he took a step in her direction, he stopped moving long enough to exchange words with his friend. He spoke softly, as if not to frighten her. "Make contact with the captain. Now," he ordered. His companion hastily left the room, quick to follow through with his order. Her eyes followed him until he left her sights. Her way out. She scooted along the room slowly, careful not to draw any unwanted attention her way, not wanting to attract his attention to her only escape route. As he took another step closer into the light, she could clearly see his face now. "You!" She exclaimed. "Listen to me, you are not supposed to be here now, we..." he started talking, but she was not paying much attention. But his words were a little too late, not that she would have listened to Jonathan anyway. She was already sprinting towards the door. She managed to get to the door before him by some miracle, but as she stepped outside the cabin, she realized her mistake. Because she might have escaped the cabin, but she was stuck on a ship. And a very, very angry, but extremely sexy pirate was glaring at her. She only had a second to catch a look before she noticed that he leapt for her at the same time as she tried to sidestep him to make a run in a different direction. Unfortunately, he was much, much faster, and he caught her easily around her waist while she was attempting to flee into another direction. He took a second to compose himself, his body stiff against her back. It made her aware of every inch of him. He was a brick behind her, full of muscles in all the right places, pressing against her back. He was warm, and he smelled of the ocean and something strong and muscular. Sheesh, it smelled amazing. It seemed like he was trying to get himself under control. He bent his head closer to hers, and she could feel her body tense slightly. Because to be honest, she was not sure what she should be expecting. Was she dreaming? Why was she responding so intensely to this stranger? She had to wonder. He seemed to breathe her in, and his lips made slight contact with her left ear. "Divina."
