CHAPTER TWO

"Mom not now please!" Bella screamed at her mum. "Just f**k off okay!" She sprouted angrily and regretted it almost immediately. "Well Bella FYI I won't 'f**k off'. You gotta tell me what your problem is? Why on earth are you guys tryin' to piss me off huh? Firstly Jasmine and now you?" Kate yelled angrily at her eldest daughter. " Mom I'm so sorry okay? I'm just having a bad day that's all." Bella apologized which was clearly unlike her. She had no choice but to. She may be going through alot but her mum is going through worse. She stood from her bed and wrapped her arms around her mum. "Am I that bad mum?" She asked in a low tone amidst tears. "Aren't I perfect enough?" She said wiping her teary eyes. "Baby is it about that cute boy again? Xavier?" Kate asked. "Hmm." She nodded. Kate broke their embrace and holding her daughter's face in her hands, she wiped the tears off her cheeks. "You're perfect Bella. Any cute boy would want to date you but I don't think you're ready yet. You should think more about graduating with the best grades Clarkson High has ever seen. You should think more about being among the lucky ones that will make it to Harvard university. You're a rear gem Bella please don't get distracted. Not now." Kate rubbed her cheeks lovingly. She knew her daughter was letting her beauty get to her head. Bella was the second top student in Clarkson High and has kept that record for a long time. That was also another reason she had those lazy guys at school drool over her. But she knew Bella wasn't interested in them. Kate knew she was only interested in this cute guy who apparently had to be the son of her high school classmate and cheerleaders captain, Andrea. But Kate wasn't ready to let her daughter date any guy yet. "But mum I'm turning 18 two days to prom. I'll be an adult and will be able to make my own decisions." She said almost in defence. "Baby please can we not talk about this now? We should settle down and discuss this later. I need to make dinner." Kate said taking a step back. The only response she got from her daughter was a nod so she held onto the door knob to open the door but paused briefly. "You'll be okay sweetie. Dinner will be ready by seven. You should come down then." Kate said and walked out of the room. "Okay mum." Bella whispered after her. * * * Jasmine found her way to the dinning room and sat on her usual spot. Her mum placed a plate in front of her. "Mmh...smells yummy!" She commented when her mum dished out hers in the plate before her. "Right?" Her mum smiled. " Hmm." She nodded in response. She reached out for her cutleries and her mum placed it on her palm voluntarily. She gave her mum a wide smile and started digging into her food. In a few seconds Bella came downstairs with her dad behind her. " Y'all should walk faster. Dinner's getting cold already." She motioned on the duo when she saw them alighting the stairs. They all sat round the table and when she was done dishing out their food they started eating. Jasmine needed extra sauce but didn't know where her mum had placed them on the table. " Mum please could you dish some extra sauce for me?" She asked. " Oh it's just right beside Bella. Bella? Could you dish out the sauce for baby?" Kate asked politely. " Why are you still calling her baby? It irritates me hearing it from you." Baby was the nickname their family called Jasmine when she was little. She actually felt she had outgrown the name but her parents actually thought otherwise. It really irked Bella whenever she heard them calling her that but she could just do nothing. " What?" Kate asked a bit more of confused than astound. "Ah just forget it." She sighed and continued with her meal. " Bella pass the sauce to your sister." Her mum repeated. "She should get it herself." She murmured and continued with her meal. Jasmine was hurt. Truly hurt and Kate could see it. She never got along with her sister and it was understandable because they both were completely different in every aspect. Bella was a total beauty and was so popular in the other hand Jasmine was blind and just that student that gets to be bullied by other students. She wasn't even regarded as someone in middle class at school. They all took her as low class. The fact that she was blind made her an easy target for everyone to bully and with no one defending her, it was twice the trouble. At school, her and Bella never got to act like they were sisters. People in school didn't know they were related. And when asked about the similarity of their last name, Bella always found a way to change the topic. She was indeed embarrassed about Jasmine being her sister but she couldn't do anything about it. Bella always had her dad drop her off at school before heading for work while Kate always drove Jasmine a few minutes later. Their parents didn't actually know what Bella was up to. They felt it was convenient that way since Bella and Mr David prepared earlier than the other two. "Bella!" Mr David said in a harsh but calm tone. Jasmine sensing what was going on broke in before things got too serious and Bella storms out in the middle of dinner again like she always does. " Dad!" She called gently. " It's really okay. Mum, why don't you serve me yourself. It'll taste better in the hands of the cook." She smiled towards the direction her mum sat. Bella rolled her eyes disgusted. " Ok sweetie." Kate said after giving Bella a hard glare who just looked away irritatedly. She served Jasmine the sauce and sat down. " You're grounded." Mr David declared his eyes piercing into Bella's. " But dad!" She cried in defence. " No buts! You'll be grounded for three weeks and that is final." He stated. " Dad you can't do this to me. I'm going to Xavier's party in about two weeks time. I can't miss it!" She yelled in tears. " You can go on with your crocodile tears but it won't make any difference." He wiped his mouth and stood from the table. " Till you learn to show Jasmine some respect as your sister." He said storming off angrily. " Mom?" Bella turned to her mum with teary eyes. " I'm sorry but your dad's right in this one. You'll have to learn to respect your sister for crying out loud." She shook her head in disbelief and went after her husband. " Bella." Jasmine called softly. Bella just stood glaring at her. "Why are you in my life huh? Why don't you just go away far away from me! You're literally stealing everything I'm meant to have in this family away from me. I just...I just....huh... Don't make me say the word." She left dejected Jasmine all alone at the table. " Hate me." Jasmine sadly completed the sentence in a whisper. It wasn't the first time Bella had said something like that to her so she knew what she had in mind already. That was it. The only thing she could do to make Bella happy. She would go to her grandma's and stay for the time being. Her parents wouldn't object to that would they? She didn't actually mind. She loved her sister so much so if she wanted her to be far away, she would do just that. Go away. She stood from the table and made her way to her room. She would tell her parents this when they would be calmer the next day. Few minutes later, Kate came down and cleared the table. She was really annoyed by Bella's behaviour but could barely do anything about her. It had to end. It really had to. * * * "Knock! Knock!!" Was the eighth time she knocked on his door. This time he heard it and made his way quickly towards the door and opened it. " Xavier! I've been standing out here for like forever." His mom Andrea said after a huge sigh. " I'm so sorry mom. I had my earphones on so I couldn't hear you." He said and suddenly started at her hand. " Juice and cookies for me? You're my favourite person." He said landing heavy kisses on her cheeks. " Oh stop that would you! You're too old to do that you know." She murmured hiding her happiness. She couldn't ask for more when she had the best son in the entire world. " No one is too old to show their mom how much they love them." He stated and placed a last kiss on her forehead. Andrea smiled widely. " Ok sure. But if you could let me in..." She said trying to remind him that she is still standing outside. " Oh my bad." He said opening the door widely and motioning on his mom to come in. She went into his room and placed the snacks on a table. She looked around at his neatly arranged musical instruments and scattered papers all over the bed and floor. " So how far have you gone with your new music?" She made for the edge of his bed and sat on it. " I'm still working on it though. It's not perfect but it's worth hearing." He scratched his hair roughly. " I would love to hear it soon." Andrea smiled widely at her son. " I'd love to play it to you mum." He said. Andrea stood from the bed and started picking up the scattered papers on the bed and floor. " Look mum really you don't have to do this." He held her hand trying to stop her. " I could clean up later when I'm done." " Well don't stop me and be bothered about eating those snacks and stop making me worried over nothing.". "You'd barely have any meal today" she added on a low tone. " Ok if you say so." He said hands up in the air moving backwards towards the door. He left the room but not without taking the snacks with him. He would definitely play the song for her some other time.
