Chapter 1

413 Words
Kimberly lay in the hospital bed unconsciously. She had been rushed to the hospital in an emergency by a strange guy who found her body lying motionless on the road near the gutters. The hospital was situated in West of Heavensgate - a small but luxurious city. The mystery man was like a Good Samaritan who wished to help her and before she could wake up, he had already left. The ambience of her surrounding was still strange to her as she opened her eyes after many hours of unconsciousness. “Where am I and how did I get here?” Kimberly inquired and gazed at the window rightward. “Oh, thank goodness, you’re awake,” said the nurse who had just walked inside the hospital room. “How did I get here? Oh, God! Ah!” She felt pain all over her body. It was then that she began to recall the incident that led to her present situation. Her ex-husband who had been traumatizing her for five years since they got married became very furious when she brought divorce papers to him to sign, and beat her mercilessly that she fainted. He signed the papers since he had already made up his mind to take another wife. Kimberly tried to sit on the bed but couldn’t move her body. The pain of the beating was very excruciating. “A strange guy brought you here to be treated. You were heavily wounded,” the nurse narrated softly as she checked her temperature. “A strange guy? Who could that be?” She had no one in mind. No cousin, no relation; only her and her little sister who should be in school. “I don’t know but he was very kind with the way he brought you. Please, you should rest more,” the nurse said. The hospital was named after Dickens Edward, Leader of a charity named Mabel. Dickens Edward Memorial Hospital. Kimberly looked at her body, disgusted at the awful bruises all over her body. A sudden feeling of exasperation filled her heart; her face suffused with rage as she developed vicious desires. Looking determined to do evil, she removed all the strings on her skin and fled the hospital in her loose knee-length gown. The nurse screaming her to stop fell in the attempt. She was dizzy, yet resolute. She arrived in her boutique at the East side of the city and went to the bathroom to cool off.
