Wrongly accused, Anthony was furious. Although he liked stockings, he knew there were more important uses for them right now. "Sandra, don't slander me. I need to borrow your stockings to purify our water source."
"Really?" Sandra looked incredulous.
"Of course. If you don't want to lend them, fine. Keep drinking that foul-smelling, salty, dirty water!" Anthony couldn't forget the water he had scooped from the river the day before. Because it was connected to the sea, it always had a slight salty and foul odor. It could be drunk only if you pinched your nose, but it was nauseating.
Sandra realized he might be right. She looked sheepishly and then pushed Anthony away. Sitting down in the cave, she slowly peeled off the thin stockings from her skin.
While removing them, she thought, ‘Is Anthony really telling the truth?’ When she handed them over, she blushed a little.
"You better be using them to purify water, or else, I will cuss you out," she said.
Anthony had no habit of bluffing. He first cleaned the stockings in the water, then gathered some partially burned charcoal from the fire. With small stones and sand, he quickly fashioned a filtration device. He had learned that skill in the military. Soon, he purified a bottle's worth of water.
The filtered water looked crystal clear, free of any sediment. It tasted only faintly mineral and even had a hint of sweetness.
Seeing the clean drinking water, Sandra's eyes lit up, and she guzzled down the entire bottle.
"See, I wasn’t lying, was I?" Anthony was a bit proud.
He drank the water and dug up some earthworms. He then went to the riverbank to use them as bait. Soon, he caught five fish as big as a hand.
Sandra was delighted. "Grill the fish. I didn't get enough to eat yesterday. This time, I want two for myself!"
Seeing the pleading look from the beautiful woman, Anthony couldn’t refuse. After all, she needed more nutrients to recover from the snake bite from the previous night. He couldn't be heartless.
Soon, the gathered wood fueled the roaring fire. The fish was cleaned and split open. Now they were getting roasted and smelling delicious.
After eating their fill, Anthony and Sandra lay down outside the cave to conserve their energy.
Anthony then turned his attention to new problems—securing their dwelling. The cave was strategically located, and with proper camouflage, it could be an excellent hiding spot. To prevent attacks from wild animals in the forest, some security measures were needed.
Anthony didn’t have any other equipment, so he resorted to the most primitive protection tools. Not far from their cave was a cluster of vine. It was thick with small sharp thorns that could be quite dangerous. Placing these vines at the cave's entrance should serve as a cover. It could deterred carnivorous animals that might be put off by the risk of getting pricked.
Anthony battled with these vines all day. By evening, he looked at his handiwork with satisfaction. Although conditions were tough, it definitely increased the safety of their dwelling.
Anthony’s spirits lifted a bit with the thought, ‘Just one month on this show and then we're out. The crew will come to pick us up, we’ll get the prize money, and we’ll be free!’
At that moment, Sandra, who was peeing, suddenly yelled out, "Back off, you pervert dog! Don’t you dare peek!"
Startled, Anthony rushed towards her, asking, "What's wrong? Is someone there?"
Hearing Anthony’s voice, Sandra hurriedly said, "Anthony, come quick! There’s a husky just as lecherous as you peeking at me while I'm peeing…"
‘A husky? How could there be a husky here?’ Anthony was bemused by Sandra’s odd thought.
"Stay still, I’m coming in to check!" Anthony tried to reassure her and slowly approached.
"Just chase away the husky, but you can not peek!" Sandra was nervous. She found the husky’s gaze unsettling and a bit frightening.
Anthony was speechless. At a time like this, she was still worried about being seen! He had no choice but to comfort her, "I won’t look, I promise!"
"That’s not enough. You have to swear!" Sandra was still uneasy. She had never had a boyfriend and felt quite vulnerable thinking about it.
"Alright, I swear, okay?" Anthony felt this was absurd. But as he got closer, he saw a creature with green eyes glowing from behind her. This startled him, and he instinctively stepped in front of Sandra.
"What’s the matter? Are you trying to peek at me?" Sandra was startled by his movement. She quickly realized her dilemma and nearly burst into tears. She couldn’t stand up without exposing herself.
Anthony was at a loss for words. Even now, she was thinking about such things. Behind her wasn't a husky but a large and fierce Siberian wolf!
"Do you realize what you called a husky is actually a wolf?" Anthony’s breathing became fast and nervous. Now, he needed to figure out how to drive the wolf away without aggravating it. If Sandra didn’t get up, and he inadvertently angered the wolf, it could attack them. Then he would not only have to fight the wolf but also protect Sandra.
"What, a wolf?!" Sandra’s face turned pale, and she staggered, instinctively about to scream.
Anthony was panicked. He couldn’t let her scream. It would possibly provoke the wolf, so he quickly covered her mouth with his hand.
Sandra's mouth was suddenly covered. So almost instinctively, she bit down hard on Anthony’s hand. It sent a sharp pain through him. She bit with such force that it hurt more than any slap could.
Despite the pain, Anthony didn't remove his hand but whispered a warning to Sandra. "Shut up. Do you want to die quicker? You will draw the attention of that wolf over there."
It was then that Sandra realized the danger they were in and felt embarrassed. She wanted to apologize to Anthony but couldn't speak because her mouth was still covered.
Anthony spoke sternly, "No more screaming. Promise me that and I'll let you go."
Sandra nodded hurriedly. Anthony finally let go of her mouth, and Sandra said apologetically, "Sorry, I misunderstood you just now. I thought you were..."
"You thought I was desperate for you?" Anthony cut in.
"What do you mean by desperate?" Sandra snapped back, getting defensive. She was pretty; how could liking her be considered desperate?
"It was just a slip of the tongue!" Anthony had learned one thing from his time with Sandra: never try to reason with a woman.
Sandra was about to argue more, but Anthony quickly said, "No more talking now. Let's get back to the cave. I need to figure out how to drive that wolf away!"
"Okay!" Sandra realized this wasn't the time for personal grievances. She tried to get up, but her legs were too shaky, and she fell down again.
"Careful!" Anthony quickly reached out to support Sandra.
She fell into Anthony’s arms, and her pants, which had been slipping down, now completely fell to her ankles. Anthony couldn't help but glance down. "Are you okay?"
It was twilight, not yet fully dark. The sight of Sandra’s pale legs and the scenery between them caught Anthony off guard.
