CHAPTER 3: He's An Arrogant Asshat

1946 Words
Emily's POV It's been a couple of weeks since I got employed as Mr. Nightshades assistant. Working with him has been very difficult, he criticizes my dressing, my meal preferences, my duties, every single thing. It almost seems like he hates me and for a personal reason. One minute he is nice and the other he is egoistical asshole. However, today I am determined to ignore his indifference and keep up my bubbly character. My mum always told me that the best way to win the dark was to blind them with light and that's what I was gonna do today. I strolled confidently in my pink pants, black shirt and black pumps to Mr. Nightshades office. With my left hand, I open the office door carefully in order not to spill the hot coffee I was carrying. The office was bright and arranged as usual. Mr Nightshades manly and woody cologne filled the room sending butterflies to my stomach and causing my heart to race in nervousness. "Good morning Mr. Nightshade. I hope you are enthusiastic for the activities of today", i beamed with a smile. He was draped in a grey suit. His face was clad in his reading lens and his sexy black hair was scattered due to his constant running of his hands through it. "Ms Parker, I've told you before, I don't have time for small talk in the mornings. Just leave the coffee and the files and get back to your desk." My smile faltered for a moment, a flicker of hurt crossing my features before I quickly masked it with a forced grin. "Of course, Mr. Nightshade. I'll let you get back to work", My heart sank in disappointment. I quickly sat his cup on his desk and rushed to leave when he stopped me. "I want the weekly reports of the Chicago Mall on my desk in 30mins. I want it to be critically analysed and organised", he said in his rudest and arrogant tone. "Yes sir" I replied lowly. "I will not hesitate to fire you if you reapeat your incompetence like last time". I just nodded knowingly and walked out of his office. I got straight to work the moment I landed on my office seat. Petro corp owned a lot of businesses that is very questionable. How can a man so young achieve all these in the few years of his life? How can he be so successful with all the competition and the rise and fall in economy? Blue Seal Luxury Five Star Hotel in Chicago had to be the most expensive and biggest of its kind in Chicago. The Hotel had regular rooms were a night in them could cost you five hundred dollars and VIP rooms had different price rates according to it's facilities. There were private suites and Honeymoon suites. There were Four different pools. Six different bars. Two Gymnasiums and two game rooms. The Hotel made out at least 3 million monthly as it was over rated and had a lot of prestigious and wealthy customers. I organized the distinct expenses and financial records for the past week, when a knock on my door distracted me. "Please come in", I said in anticipation as I didn't expect anyone to come see me. My door opened slowly to reveal a grinning Michael. Of course it would be him. "Hey Emily, How are you doing?", he beamed with a smile as he shut the door and took a seat across my desk. "I'm fine, Mike but I'm surprised to see you here" "I was just bored and free and thought I should come see my new beautiful friend", he replied cheekily and I blushed. "That's really nice of you but you caught me at the wrong time. I'm very busy at the moment " "I know but I was wandering if you could hang out with me for lunch" "Wow, I'd love to but my work demands my attention and I doubt I'd be able to make it to lunch. However, I'm considering that hang out maybe during the weekend" "Hmm, sounds like a plan. So, what exactly are you working on. Anything I can help you with?" "Uhm... just this hotel reports", I pointed out and he leaned closer as I showed him my work. He outlined some paragraphs that needed correction and we worked on the report together. While we concentrated completely on the work before us, my door being slammed open pulled us out of our concentration state. A very furious Mr. Nightshade walked into the office. Michael gave me an apologetic look and excused himself. Mr. Nightshade banged his hand on my desk angrily making me flinch and move my seat away from the desk. "Mr. Nightshade??" "Why didn't you tell me that we had a lunch meeting with Mr. Salvatore from Zolana's Corporation today? And I am already 30mins late" "Oh my God!" I exclaimed as I jumped up from my seat in a hurry. "I am so sorry Mr. Nightshade. I was completely lost in the work that you gave me that I lost track of time. I promise it won't happen again. Please forgive me" "Forgive you? How many times do I have to forgive you?", he yelled pointing his finger at me. "Every time you're messing up one thing or the other. You're so useless. Get your things and meet me in the car downstairs", then he stormed out of my office. Tears pricked my eyes as my heart ached at his words. He called me useless. I'm useless? After every thing. If he didn't give me this much work I would have been alert. Tears streamed down my face by now and I sniffed silently. He isn't worth it. He's just a lucky bastard. I'm better than what he thinks. I quickly wiped my tears and grabbed my bag. I rushed to the car and the security outside got the door for me. "Did you get the contract documents for this meeting?", Mr. Nightshade asked from beside me with his eyes on my bag that I placed on the car seat in between us. "Yes sir, I did", i replied avoiding his gaze and staring outside the window. Hoping he'd see how much his words hurt me and apologise. No, I was wrong. I took a quick look at him from my side eye and found him busy with his phone. Luke Beckham, his driver got in and we were on our way. The traffic today couldn't be any worse to make us later than we already were. The car came to a stop right in front of a Five Star restaurant. Le Morres. I wasn't even surprised because I knew this man could afford a meal here. We walked into the modern and expensively furnished restaurant. The furnitures and walls were coated in white and gold designs. It all screamed Money. I shrank into my little shell as the environment scared me. A blonde waiter dressed in a white shirt and gold pants approached us. "Mr. Nightshade?", he asked curtly. My boss nodded arrogantly, his facial expression stoic and intimidating. "Mr. Salvatore is waiting for you. Please fill me", and he turned around anded us up a stairwell to a room filled with gold private booths. Most of them were empty and as we got closer to the end of the booth line I sighted two men, an older man dressed in a white suit with grey hair and silver spectacles while his associate was dressed in a simple light blue shirt and deep blue pants. The waiter bowed at us and walked away. Mr. Nightshade gave his hand out for a shake and the older man got up to take it. "Nightshade. It's been a while since we last conversed and I must say, you look so much better than last time" "Mr. Salvatore. You don't look too bad yourself. I apologise for being behind time as I had an unforeseen emergency ", he lied smoothly and threw me a brief glance. My body ran cold understanding everything. "It's fine, son. An Emergency, you say? Is everything alright?" Mr. Salvatore asked with worry etched on his face as he retook his seat. I got in the booth and sat while my boss entered after me. "Everything is fine now", Mr. Nightshade spoke calmly. "So, who's this beautiful lady you have here?", the man asked checking me out and winking. Disgusting. I wanted to puke but I behaved for the sake of the contract. "Mr. Salvatore. I believe we are here for business. I would rather we concentrate on that and not my assistant", my boss replied darkly with challenging glare. Sweat trickled down the side of Mr. Salvatore's face and he gave a nervous chuckle and cleared his throat. Soon, the both men began discussing business and that's when I realised that Mr. Salvatore's assistant was as quiet as I was. I raised a curious glance to him and his eyes caught my stare. I have him a nervous smile and he smiled back. "Ms. Parker, give me the contract documents", my boss requested and I dived into my bag, going through different document file and papers. I just wasn't seeing it. I searched my bag, being aware of my boss's irritated stare. I quickly found it and handed the file to him, breathing a sigh of relief. He carried on with his discussion immediately. Pheewww, yat was really close. I almost embarrassed myself. I looked up at my fellow assistant and he looked like he was trying so hard to hold a laugh. I'm glad he found this amusing though, it would have gotten worse. I just shook my head with a small smile. "It was nice doing business with you, Mr. Salvatore", my boss rose from his seat, closed the contract folder and shook Mr. Salvatore's hand. "And you too, Nightshade", the man replied. My boss walked off and I quickly put the contract folder in my bag. I waved a short goodbye at my fellow assistant and he smiled as I ran to meet up with my boss. We got int his car and the driver pulled out of the restaurant. "Ms. Parker. You're lucky I got that contract deal. I won't have been very merciful with you. You're so incompetent and instead of you to act sorry for causing me to be late, you were whoring around with Salvatore's assistant. Earlier today it was Michael Hayes and now it's the unfortunate perverts assistant ", My boss spoke harshly. "I wasn't whoring around, Mr. Nightshade ", i replied nervously. "Oh really, you want to act like I'm oblivious to the fact that you were smiling at that man. So unprofessional. You're such a w***e. I'm sure you like it when Salvatore asked after you. You're just a shameless attention seeker ", he spat bitterly. My heart ached and in that moment I felt suffocated. All these accusations got me hyperventilating. My tears poured out and the car came to a stop infront of Petrocorp Industries. My boss stepped out leaving me to my misery. A w***e? He thinks I'm a w***e because I was being friendly. I didn't even talk to that man. How could he think so lowly of me? I grabbed my bag and ran to the bathroom. I need to stand up for myself. I can't be allowing Mr. Nightshade affect me so much. Yes he is handsome and rich but he is an arrogant egoistical Asshat. I might even like him but he just has the worst temper and I'm trying to ensure it.
