We slept in the next morning and enjoyed breakfast in bed before checking out of the hotel. Jay tossed his car keys to me as we headed down to the valet. “You don’t want to drive?” “Not really. Besides, you know the way to your parents’ house better than I do.” I enjoyed driving Jay’s Mercedes. Sure, I loved my old, reliable Jetta, but being behind the wheel of the Mercedes was seductive in a way the Volkswagen just wasn’t. Jay was always bugging me to get a new car, but I didn’t see the point of spending money on a car I barely drove.
