Chapter 9Javi was racking up some coffee mugs for the overnight watch standers when he heard a footstep he had become familiar with. The man moved like a wolf, padding softly. It could have been threatening, but Javi would be happy to have this wolf sneak up on him. “Coffee ready?” Razz asked. He had a nice accent, Javi thought for the umpteenth time. Not one he’d ever heard before. He hadn’t known many Earthers before. Not OG Earthers that is, people actually born on Earth, rather than human colonists. He knew the captain was from some exotic place—a country or something—called Chicago. “It’s ready,” Javi said, turning around to hand Razz a clean mug. “Want a snack too?” He waved at the pastries and cookies. “A man’s entitled to a treat sometimes and I’m sure you can work it off later.”
