Chapter 2: Worst employee

1271 Words
Alex left with his troublesome bodyguards. At 7:00 AM at the Helix Hotel, the elevator opened. “Boss, don't you think that you should at least show up at your inauguration ceremony?”. Mr Michael, the personal assistant to Derek, suggested. “I mean, it doesn't look nice if the man of the occasion isn't present”. He continued, even without receiving any response from his boss. “You are the CEO, let people in the world of Helix know you”. “Boss, are you even listening to me?”. He asked with a serious tone. Derek paused at the entrance of his powerful office. He is a man of few words, and he hates repeating himself, which is what his newly assigned assistant fails to understand, which may put his job as his assistant at risk. Derek turned to him, with his index finger pointing at what was written on the office entrance. CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - DEREK HALE. “This is the only thing that matters, my duty, the stock price of Helix Hotel. While love, laughter, and smiles are baseless emotions that can't take you anywhere”. Derek responded coldly. Mr Michael already knew that convincing Derek to attend the ceremony was like pouring water on a stone. “Okay, but the best few employees can come to your office to welcome you, right boss?”. He asked, and was already expecting an answer from him. “That's their f*cking business and I don't f*cking care”. He replied in a serious tone. His face looked emotionless He tried reaching for his phone in his suit pocket but realized he wasn't with it. “s**t, I forgot my phone in my hotel room”. Derek complained. “Don't worry, boss, I will call the receptionist, I will be right back”. He left immediately. He inhaled deeply and tried to get into his office, but also realized that he had forgotten his key card on his table in his room. This was unlike him. “Holy s**t, not now…. Mr Michael!!, Mr Michael!!!”. He called out but he had no other option but to go get it himself from his room and pick up his phone as well. “Hey Aria”. The receptionist called out to Aria, who was recently promoted and was now working at the lobby. The lobby is considered the face of the hotel. “Take this key card and rush to the room number, get the phone of Mr Derek Hale down here”. “His assistant will soon be here to pick it up”. She ordered her immediately after receiving a phone call from Mr Michael. “Okay, ma,” Aria went off immediately. She entered the most expensive room in the hotel, which costs over $100,000 per night. Helix Hotel is a sprawling suite with multiple bedrooms, living and dining areas, a bar, and a two-story office. It can also connect to 16 additional rooms, making it an incredibly expansive space. Situated in New York City, a city known for its luxury and extravagance, is a fitting location for such a high-end experience. Guests can expect top-of-the-line furnishings, state-of-the-art technology, and personalized service, including a private butler. The price tag alone makes it exclusive, catering to a very specific and wealthy clientele. Aria was amazed at seeing the luxury in front of her, the furniture in the parlour was making her feel like she was in heaven already. She whispered to herself “This parlour alone is bigger than my house”. She rushed to do the task assigned to her before she got entirely carried away by the room’s beauty. She found the phone on Mr Derek's bed and grabbed it, but noticed that the bed was so soft and got carried away once again. Aria sprayed herself on the bed waving her legs and hands like a child. “Only if I can sleep on this type of bed, all my sorrows will disappear in one night”. She chimed. Suddenly, a flash of thought came into her head that a CCTV camera may be on her, she has to behave herself, and get the hell out of the room. On her way to leave, she got startled. She saw a tall, slim figure glaring at her in irritation. “Hand me my phone, right now”. Derek demanded, with a serious tone. Her heartbeat was faster, and she felt a gush of adrenaline rush through her spine. “I’m sorry sir”. She gave him the phone and bowed her head in fear and respect. Derek recognized that voice, he tried looking at her face, but she kept hiding her face. “Have we met before?”. He asked with so much curiosity in his eyes. Aria was shocked. Where on earth would she have met a very powerful personality like him? She was confused; she didn't remember the exact face of the man she had fallen out with. “No sir”. She said and excused herself. She wasn't pleased with the fact that she was standing before a stranger in a very big room alone. But Derek insisted and followed her up immediately. “Hey, I'm still talking to you”. Derek walked ahead of her, blocking her from using the elevator. What's with him? Why is he following her? Aria had no other option but to hear him out; besides, she could hit him with something on his head if he tried anything funny. “Good morning, sir, do you need anything?”. She suddenly became polite. He ignored her silly question. “You were the lady at my treadmill yesterday evening, right?”. Aria's eyeballs went sideways at the same time, trying to remember what happened. Suddenly got flashes of her confronting a young man. She looked at him again. “Oh I see, you were the man putting on the tiger T-shirt?”. She enquired further. Derek was keeping a straight face, no trace of unseriousness on it. His hands were in his pockets. “Yeah, I need you to apologize to me for shattering the bed with your filthy body and also apologize for last night”. He said in a domineering manner. Aria couldn't help it, she was glancing at him with so much resentment. But she had to apologize for bed, it was so unprofessional of her to do that. “I am sorry for what happened earlier on, but last night was your fault, Mr. Pervent”. “If you didn't send me such a silly letter, I wouldn't have embarrassed you in that way”. She claimed with her chest up. Derek chuckled mischievously. He had never met someone as stubborn as admitting her mistakes. For heaven's sake, he was not the man who wrote whatever letter she was talking about. At this point, Derek was fed up. “You are the worst employee I have ever met in my entire life as a businessman, and I hope to never see you around me. If you do, I will strangle you with my bare hands”. He reprimanded her with a stern warning. He walked into the elevator enraged with so much anger. Aria was scared for her life. When she saw the anger burning in his eyes, she thought he would strangle her at once. She almost prayed her last prayer. Did they meet again? And how?
