Alyssa's POV I had not been able to sleep a wink. I paced and stared at the window, waiting for the night to creep in. Earlier on, I had decided there was no need to pack any of my clothes. This will be a fresh start for me, though I had no idea where and how to go. All I knew was that I needed to be away, to get away from the fate my tyrant father was imposing on me. The crescent moon shone brightly through my window, a few stars dusted the sky, indicating it was really late. Slowly, I came out of my room and tiptoed through the corridor, but I was fully out in the open. At that moment, I contemplated taking one of my father's horses, but I didn't want to risk being caught. Instead, I hid behind a wall on seeing the guards parading just at the entrance. In my desire to escape, I had forgotten about my father's guards. Annoyed but still determined, I hit behind the wall and thought. There was only one way left, the back door; it led directly into the woods. Not the woods I was used to walking through, rumors had it that the territory was unmarked but Alpha Killian has been laying claim on it, alongside Alpha Fenris. Alpha Fenris was another tale entirely. He, a lycan and the alpha of the Northwest pack, matched Killian with brutality. They were at loggerhead. Always at war, yet no one seemed to emerge a winner. Clearly, Alpha Fenris held the same power Killian boasted off. Either way, the two Alphas were not anyone to mess with. But I was past caring. Besides, I wasn't going into the territory, just taking a road that led away from this pack. Away. Far away. Bravely, I headed through the back door. It was never guarded because no one will be foolish enough to venture there. The path was narrow, illuminated only by the light of the moon. Only the sound of crickets and owls was audible, and the trampling or dry leaves. I allowed myself to feel free. I walked, breathing in the air of freedom and wondering what it will be like to have a loving father. One who didn't sell his daughter off at the first opportunity. Suddenly, there was another sound, it sounded so much like the footsteps of a much larger figure. I looked around, ducking behind a tree so I was unseen. Indeed, there was a man who appeared to be looking for something, when he turned around, I could see it was one of the guards! I inhaled sharply. I couldn't be caught by anyone. Throwing cautions into the wind, I ran through the wood, fallen twigs cut my ankle and dangling branches slapped my face. They hurt but I didn't stop caring. I just wanted to be away. In my frenzy to run faster, I shifted! My brown wolf breaking free, as I felt the breeze wheezing past me and ruffling my furs. I hadn't planned to stop, but due to my sharpened sight now, I could see meters away. A scene that made my blood run cold. There were two wolves fighting. It wasn't the fight I was used to. This was bloody, claws and teeth digging. Each wolf was battered with cuts and slashes, blood littered the spot, but no one was giving up. Inching closer, I shifted back now, totally naked since my clothes had turned to shreds when I shifted earlier, but that seemed like the least of my problems. I stood at a considerable distance where I couldn't be seen, but could watch the entire scene unfold. The fight was relentless, each party seeking to end the other. It felt like forever while I was still hiding and watching before the two gradually came to a stop. Immediately, I caught icy blue eyes in one of the wolves and it took everything in me to look away. Deciding that was enough, I needed to continue my journey. I crept away, hoping to come across anything to wear. I jumped from tree to tree, walking deeper into the wood. As I moved, I had almost forgotten about the fight. I walked slowly without any sense of direction, when a shadow cascaded over me. My breath instantly got caught in my throat, as the worst possible scenario flashed through my mind. Perhaps, it was one of my father's guards. I turned sharply, but the first things I saw were blue eyes. The color of the sea at its calmest. The color of a bright sky. It was piercing. I had seen it before. The wolves! One of them. Jumping back, I muttered something inaudible. I couldn't see the man who stood there properly because it was still dark and the shadows of trees hid most of his figures, but it was as if the moon wanted me to forever remember his eyes, for it shone directly on them. Then, those blue eyes were no longer looking at me, they were going lower until they were full on staring at my nakedness. Feeling so shy, I awkwardly made a failed attempt at wrapping my arms around my chest. They barely hid anything. "Weren't you taught to undress first before shifting?" If I had an answer to that, I couldn't reply. His voice vibrated like a rumble and with his huge figure, I was intimidated. The dark wolf of his I had also seen wasn't something to forget. "No-" he arched his brow, as I stuttered. "I mean yes... I'll just get going," I stuttered even more, feeling really self conscious. I would have gone forward, resumed my journey of no destination, if I didn't catch a crest sitting on the collar of the man, from the corner of my eyes. My father wore one, it was for alphas and each crest had the pack's name on it. I saw Greenwood's pack. Wait. The alpha of greenwood! Killian! That explained how brutal the fight had been. But, who stood a match for Killian, that he had been unable to defeat him? Only one person could...Alpha Fenris of the Northwest pack! I could not believe that I had watched the two ruthless alphas have a go at it, and one was standing right in front of me! The man I was supposed to marry, looking like he could easily snap my neck. Before he would try to punish me for supposed trespassing, I ran! I ran utterly naked, with fear pulsing through my veins. He would have definitely killed me even before he married me! I ran, half expecting him to catch up with me because if he wanted to, he would. In my desire to escape, I ran right back home. I snuck in through the back door until I was in my room. As I fell on my bed, I breathed out heavily. The night had been unbelievable. I just saw the man I was expected to marry for the first time. I watched the most powerful alphas fight. And above all, I just had a near death experience. "I can't believe I tried to escape but ran right back. I'm doomed!" I spoke to myself, as I stared at the ceiling. Hesitantly, I shut my eyes and tried to sleep, but all I could see behind my eyes were blue. Even when I slept, blue eyes invaded my sleep. Sharp and intense blue. A blue that could kill me. A blue that would kill me.
