Chapter 2: The Shadow That Follows

442 Words
Back at Aarav's research quarters, Meera carefully dusted off the manuscript, her fingers tracing the intricate patterns embedded in the ancient pages. The dim glow of the lamp flickered as she leaned closer, her breath hitching in awe. "It mentions something about bending time and space," she murmured, eyes scanning the faded ink. "But it’s incomplete... there are missing pages." Aarav rubbed his temples, deep in thought. "Akash Sutra..." he whispered, as if saying the name might unlock its secrets. "If this is real, Meera, then we're looking at something beyond history itself." Before she could respond, a sudden chill settled over the room. The air turned thick, heavy with an unspoken presence. Then, a soft but deliberate knock echoed against the wooden door. Aarav and Meera exchanged uneasy glances. His hand hovered over the handle before he slowly pulled the door open. Standing outside was an old man, his piercing gray eyes glowing under the dim corridor light. His face was weathered, lined with stories untold, yet his presence radiated an unsettling authority. "Aapko aage nahi badhna chahiye," the man said, his voice carrying both a warning and a plea. (You must not go any further.) Aarav stiffened. "Aap kaun hain?" (Who are you?) The old man exhaled sharply. "Main woh hoon jo iss gyaan ke khatre ko bhool nahi saka." (I am someone who has not forgotten the dangers of this knowledge.) Meera stepped forward, her curiosity outweighing her caution. "Yeh kitab... Akash Sutra... iske peeche kya raaz hai?" (This book... the Akash Sutra... what secret does it hold?) The old man’s expression darkened. "Jise tum gyaan samajh rahe ho, woh abhishaap bhi ho sakta hai. Yeh shakti insaano ke haath mein nahi honi chahiye. Sadiyon se kuch taaqatein ise dhoond rahi hain. Agar tumne aage kadam badhaya, woh tumhe dhoond lenge." (What you think is knowledge can also be a curse. This power is not meant for human hands. There are forces that have hunted it for centuries. If you proceed, they will find you.) The weight of his words settled over them like an iron shroud. Before they could ask anything more, the man turned and disappeared into the night, his presence vanishing as swiftly as it had arrived. Meera swallowed hard. "Aarav... yeh sach mein kuch zyada bada lag raha hai." (Aarav... this really feels much bigger than we thought.) Aarav clenched his jaw, his mind racing. The warning should have been enough to deter them. But instead, it confirmed something they had only begun to suspect— They had stumbled upon something far greater than they had imagined. And the Sons of Rudra were already watching.
