It had been a long evening for Sasha, stuck up in the loft. Once everyone had arrived, Jayhan had joined her while Leon had remained downstairs to keep watch. They talked excitedly about the dresses, horses and carriages they had seen.
“Did you see Jon?” Jayhan’s pale eyes almost glowed in the gloom. The only light came through the c***k in the wood. “He gets to stand up while they’re going along. How much fun would that be?” His face fell. “Dad would never let me do that.”
“I bet it’s cold.” When Jayhan shrugged, she added, “And what if it’s raining or snowing or really windy? That wouldn’t be much fun.”
Jayhan glanced at her and conceded defeat. “No, I suppose not. And it’ll be freezing by the time they leave tonight.” He brightened. “Still it would be great on a sunny day.”
