“Elara!” I yelled as I barged into her room without knocking. “Shh,” she hushed softly as she stood up from her bed. “He just fell asleep.” I paused at the door, staring at the figure sleeping on her bed. Even though he was asleep, his breathing was still harsh, his eyebrows furrowed. My father was the case of how the mighty have fallen. Four years ago, no one would have predicted this was the state he would be in, but losing his mate, our mother, did that to him. It broke him to the point that it affected his body physically, and this was his current state. Four years… That’s how long our mother has been gone, and he has been married to Elara for two years. Was that how easy it was for him to move on? Or was it that easy for her to dig her claws into him? I know it was the latter.
