Lilith’s Teenage Years

789 Words
Lilith was a happy child, but she was also a very sheltered one. Her mother never told her about puberty or that boys had different parts than girls. She didn’t even know what s*x was until 8th grade and didn’t fully understand it until high school. In the county Lilith lives in, there are two elementary schools and one middle and high school. Once students graduated 5th grade, they all join together in middle school. Lilith was petrified to join classes with other students she had never met, but she was hopeful she would make more friends with new people. Lilith was disappointed. She was ignored. She was made fun of. Her best friend Hannah, that she had been friends with since preschool, had become best friends with another girl named Gertrude from the other elementary school and had stopped talking to her almost completely. Her other friends had made new friends too, but she had not. She finally met a girl named Danielle in science class one day. Danielle was cool, she had cool hair and cool clothes. She decided to make friends, and Danielle obliged. They sat together in class, ate lunch together, and even talked on the house phone after school. Danielle had shown Lilith her cell phone and now Lilith needed one of her own. She begged her mother for cool clothes like Danielle wore as well. Where Lilith’s mother was a teacher at the elementary school, she knew most of the students Lilith went to school with. However, she was afraid of the friends shed make in middle and high school since she didn’t know half of Lilith’s new classmates. She had her sources, however. After talking with some of the middle school teachers about Danielle, she decided Danielle would be a bad influence on Lilith and told her to stay away from her - this did nothing but hurt Lilith’s feelings. “Mom, what about the golden rule? What about not judging a book by its cover?” Lilith’s questions were answered with, “I told you so” or by “She’s not a good influence.” This didn’t stop Lilith at ALL. She proceeded to get a cellphone and she proceeded to convince her mother to buy her cooler clothes, all while telling her that her and Danielle weren’t friends anymore. Lilith got her period, and her mother gave her minimal knowledge about the subject. Danielle however, had a lot of knowledge on the subject. She also had a lot of knowledge on boys. Danielle and Lilith were the ‘cool kids’ of sixth grade and they got in a lot of trouble. Lilith’s father owned a local shop, and after school one day, Lilith invited over a boy she had been talking to on her cellphone. She kissed him behind her fathers shop, just because everyone else had had their first kiss and she wanted one more than anything. It was a terrible first kiss however, and Lilith thought that if all first kisses were like that, she did NOT want to kiss anyone anymore. The real issue is that her father was looking out the back window of his shop the whole time. Her cellphone was taken away and she was grounded for a month. Seventh grade was worse, because Danielle started disliking Lilith and shut her out. At this point, Lilith really had no friends at all. She wanted to look more like other girls she saw: skinny, pretty, funny, and everything else. She only ate once a day, and it was usually one pack of gummies in the morning. After a few months of her ‘diet’, she noticed she got skinnier and that boys were trying to talk to her more often. In eighth grade, she was still 165 pounds, which was still too large in her own opinion. She had gym that year which included BMI’s and how fast kids could run a mile in. When her PE teacher told her she was obese, she decided to take her diet up a notch. Lilith ate one pack of gummies every two days. She dropped from 165 pounds to 120 in a month. Her parents never said a word, and her friends complimented her. Her PE teacher even came up to her at the end of the year and asked how she’d lost all the weight. She told her she had been working out and her teacher congratulated her. Lilith started ninth grade off with wearing makeup. The boys were already starting to get to know her - even the older seniors and juniors. She didn’t really have an idea of what s*x, love, or a relationship was so she was happy to talk to anyone.
