Chapter 6Sid stumbled out of bed when Cognac whined. He’d overslept, and the poor beast needed to use the facilities. The morning air was crisp, the lawn more of a muddy field than a lawn. Most of what had been a lawn he’d turned into growing space for his potatoes, but he had a little area around the trees. Frowning, he wondered if he should remove it to grow more potatoes. There were too many roots to dig though, and he needed the apples the trees produced. As Cognac ran off across the potato patch after a rabbit, Sid took the opportunity to empty his bladder next to one of the apple trees. He should plant more trees. They were expensive, and he wasn’t allowed more than the five trees he already had unless he registered an orchard which wasn’t an option. What with random inspections of
