Chapter 20Sid watched Thorn walk toward the kitchen. His body was tense and his face blank. Sid didn’t blame him. Here he was sweeping back into his life without much explanation and with few promises of the future. He scowled. He could do better—had to do better. The moment he stood, Cognac flew to his feet, and Sid gestured for him to go toward the door. He’d grab what he had in the truck. He hadn’t brought much in case Thorn told him to f**k off, but a bag with some clothes and most of the things he’d had in his bathroom. Cognac ran around sniffing the lawn, and Sid spotted the ears of a hare or a rabbit in the distance. The waning light made it hard to see, but it made him hopeful they could get some meat in the future. When he walked back into the house, Thorn was nowhere to be see
