Chapter 3 Time went by quickly but not peacefully. Every day that went by, Seris could feel her confidence slipping away. She started making silly mistakes she was sure she wouldn't normally make. Like too much salt in the food, placing things where they weren't supposed to be, mixing up documents. And on every single occasion, Aveline always stepped up to help her. She solved the salt situation and served the food herself. She arranged the misplaced stuff and even solved the document issues. In no time, the pack members began talking. Some said that Seris was probably sick, some said she was developing mental issues, while others said she was just throwing a tantrum because the alpha had brought in another woman. But Seris wasn't feeling any of these. Lately, she felt like she had been walking on clouds, her head was always floating, and she didn't know why. Today Gloria organized a picnic for everyone to relax and unwind. The officials of the pack and external alphas gathered around an opening in the forest, and they talked amongst themselves. Seris sat beside Gloria, who sat between her and Julian. There were conversations around her but she didn't include herself. Suddenly there was a cry at the far end. They all turned to see Aveline jumping around screaming. Julian stood up instinctively. When he realized that he was supposed to be with her, he froze. He happened to look down at that moment to see Seris staring at him in confusion. Maybe it was something he saw in her orbs that made him look away. “What's wrong?” he called out to Aveline. “Bugs, there are a lot of bugs around here.” she cries out, dusting her pretty pink dress and shaking her hair. “Let me go and have a look.” Gloria surprisingly volunteered. “Oh, dear. There's an ant hill here.” Gloria cried out in surprise. She hadn't seen this ant hill here before. “I'm so sorry dear. You can come and sit beside me,” she said, already pulling Aveline. She sat down and pushed Seris away with her hip. “Go get some insect repellent,” she said. Then she turned to Aveline and ushered her to sit between herself and Julian. Seris stood up slowly. And then she began walking back to the pack house. ‘Insect repellent? Are you kidding, they are wolves?’ Deep in her thoughts, Seris didn't watch her as she was going. Something hooked her legs, knocking her off her feet. Seris only realized when she was falling. She fell headfirst, her face didn't land on the dust, but inside a large cake in front of one of the officials. Seris wishes the ground would open up and swallow her. She heard gasp around her, and several people rose to their feet. Seris slowly removed her face from the cake, she wiped her eyes, and happened to look at Julian, who was also staring at her, but his eyes were filled with resentment. Beside him, Aveline was clearly trying so hard not to laugh that her face was red. Seris's eyes fell to the ground, and she almost jumped. She saw a root move. It slipped back onto the ground. A root! A f*****g plant attachment, moved!!? “I—” Julian jumped to his feet. He marched towards her, rage radiating off him. When he got closer, Seris instinctively shrank back, which further added to his fury. He grabbed her hand and practically dragged her out of that gathering. Behind them, Aveline watched with a smile. Julian pulled her straight to his study. He threw her in and banged the door. He turned to her and yelled in her face. “Have you lost your mind!!?” Seris shrank back instinctively. She opened her mouth but only tasted cake. She spat, which further infuriated Julian. “If you didn't want to get the repellent for Aveline. You should have said so instead of grumbling and throwing a tantrum.” Seris finally snapped. “Throwing a tantrum? Do you think I'm five?” she snapped back at him. Julian froze in disbelief. He had known this woman for six months. In those six months, she never showed him any other facial expression except one with a smile. She was the quiet, easy-going type and that was why he accepted the mate bond. But now this woman actually yelled at him. Julian didn't feel the mate bond. Instead, something in him snapped. “Don't you raise your voice at me. I wasn't the one who pushed you,” he pointed a finger at her. Seris didn't back down. “I tripped okay. I wasn't throwing a tantrum. And—” she paused. She stared at him, wondering if he would believe her. “And what?” Julian pressed impatiently. “Something tripped me—” she said quietly. Julian froze. “What?” “Yes, I saw it. It was a root. At least that's what it looked like—” Julian chuckled, raising a hand to rub his face. “What you are saying is, the root moved and tripped you?” “Yes!” Seris exclaimed. Surprise on her face. ‘He knew? He saw it?’ But contrary to what she thought, Julian looked at her like she had lost her mind instead. “You must be out of your mind. Go to your room and don't come out until I say so.” After saying that, Julian turned his back to her. Seris stared at him in disbelief. Her wolf whimpered in her head. Her chest hurt. “You don't believe me, do you? You stopped believing in me ever since that woman—” “Don't say any more words. You have told enough lies for the day,” he cut her off. “Lies?” she repeated. “Yes.” he finally turned around to face Seris. “I know you are just lying and throwing a tantrum to cover up your jealousy.” “Jealousy?” she repeated. She looked at him like she couldn't understand what he was saying, and thus irked Julian more. “Yes. Ever since Aveline came, you have been acting differently. But Aveline is here to stay…” he said. Then he paused and added. “Maybe try to be more like Aveline.” Boom. This blew her mind. Her mate was comparing her to someone else. A stranger he met a few days ago. Seris stared at Julian in disbelief. “You think I'm jealous of flat-chested Aveline? You think I'm jealous of that fake woman. You just be blind Julian.” “Don't talk to me that way,” he snapped. “And why not? You are no longer the man I know, Julian.” Yes, she called him Julian. The man said nothing, his face was stoic, as if whatever she was saying was none of his business. “I hope you enjoy your party,” she said with so much bitterness in her heart. She turned back when— “Wait!” he suddenly called out. Seris paused, expecting an apology, but instead he said; “The alpha of Thunderhowl clan will be coming any time soon. As you will be the only one in the pack, you will welcome him,” he said. Thunderhowl clan. They were the most powerful and secretive werewolf clan in the world. She and Julian had been planning on how to ask for his help concerning the recent rogue attack. She came up with a plan to get him to come and it worked. Seris crossed her hand over her chest and raised her chin. “I told you he would come. Can Aveline do that?” she asked haughtily. Julian’s shoulder tensed up. “Make sure he is well taken care of,” he said and quickly walked out of the room. Seris watched him go. She made no love to call him back. She wasn't sorry, it shouldn't be her who should be sorry. Even if they had known each other for a short while, he never saw her worth. With a depressed sigh, she left the study and headed to her room. She took her bath and was about to change into another pair of jeans, when she picked out a sundress and then stopped. She walked over to the mirror and stared at herself. Julian’s words echo in her mind. She looked herself over. Her figure wasn't bad. It wasn't bad at all. She had a thin waist and full hips. She was tall too. Her hair was wavy and thin, not like Aveline's. She thought that she was beautiful. But there was one problem. One problem made her feel very insecure. She capped the problems. They were heavy and even spilled from her fingers. Julian never liked them this way. In fact, the first time she wore clothes that exposed them, he looked at her in disgust. They were her boobs. They were too big. Just then her ears caught a sound. The sound of a car. She turned back to the mirror. ‘Maybe she should stay here and not care about the alpha and let Julian face the consequences alone.’ That plan brought a smile to her face. She threw on a casual sundress, the only sundress that made her chest look less big, and went to make herself something nice to eat. She was almost in the kitchen when she suddenly got a whiff of an enticing scent coming from the side of the park. She stopped dead in her tracks and turned around. Just then her wolf perked up, running around crazily in her head. Seris's brows tightened. Her foot stretched out, not to the kitchen but towards the park entrance. Outside. What caught her attention first, was the black Mustang that stopped in front of the pack. Seris almost drooled at the sight. Her pack could never afford to get something like this from the humans. Inside the car, the man sitting in the back raises a brow at the figure in front of the pack. His lips twitched. The door to the passenger seat opened. A man stepped down. His presence alone caused her to look down at her feet. But to her surprise, he wasn't even the alpha. The man opened the door to the back seat. A leather shoe stepped out. Seris held her breath as a man stepped out. As tall as the car was, he was taller. Seris sucked in her breath. He was very tall, with long hair packed in a man's bun; his facial features were so sharp it looked like they were cut from stone. Black sunglasses hid his eyes. He looked and felt like the alpha of all alphas. As soon as he got out, his eyes fell on her. He stopped for a second, barely noticeable. And then his long straight legs carried him towards her. The closer he got, the faster Seris' heart sped up. Even her wolf jumped out and panted. Seris shooed her to the back of her mind. The wolf. Definitely the alpha, stopped in front of her. Seris couldn't breathe at this point. Then he said. “Where is your alpha?” Her knees almost buckled.
