The ritual hall sat at the southernmost end of the kingdom, up on a hill, completely opposite the main gates we needed to exit. Part of me didn't have the strength to cross the city, knowing people would be flocking from their homes and businesses to see what had happened. But I also knew the people needed this. They needed hope and to trust. We were providing both. The eight of us descended the steps without fanfare but noticed the streets beginning to clog with the curious and hopeful.
