Chapter 10For a moment there was an electrified silence.
Lady Cardon spoke first,
“So this is where you are, you tiresome child, while we have been worrying ourselves as to what had happened to you. How could you be so selfish and inconsiderate?”
“It is worse than that,” Lord Cardon said roughly, his voice sharp and biting as a whip. “You have obviously thrust yourself unwanted upon Sir Rupert. I just cannot believe that you are here at his invitation.”
Nerina found her voice.
“No,” she murmured. “It was not exactly at his invitation.”
