Chapter Thirteen
Another week passed with no sign of Matthew’s powers. Although Noel took Matt out each day, staying out with him from morning until late afternoon, Elise felt it was more for the fact that Noel was avoiding her than for trying to awaken Matt’s dormant healing gifts.
As she walked around the kitchen she gathered the items she would need to make dinner, doing her best to shove aside the hurt at Noel’s absence since the night they had made love.
The villager’s main staple seemed to be beans and tortillas with whatever meat and vegetables were handy. Elise had concocted some interesting meals in the past days as she’d had plenty of time to experiment in the kitchen since she was left alone most of the time.
