Two months had passed, and life kept moving.
Dad was doing fine, but my relationship wasn’t. Jack had been distant lately. He kept coming to my office, claiming he had deliveries, but he always stayed longer than necessary in Nyla’s office—and left without even seeing me.
One day, he showed up again and headed straight for her office like usual. This time, I stopped him halfway.
“Jack,” I called. “What’s your deal with Nyla? You know she bullies me, but you seem… cool with her.”
He barely looked at me. “That’s your problem with her. For me, it’s business.”
His response threw me off, but I tried to brush it aside.
“You don’t have to be cold. It’s just a harmless question.”
I stepped closer, reaching out to hug him, but as he began to pull away, Nyla walked in. Jack quickly pushed me aside, like we’d been caught doing something wrong.
“I have to go,” he muttered before leaving without another glance.
I stood there, confused and a little hurt.
“Lizzie,” Nyla called, her voice dripping with amusement. “Are you having an affair in this company… with a delivery guy?”
“That’s my boyfriend,” I snapped. “And I should be asking you that.”
“Oh… your boyfriend?” she repeated, a sly smile forming on her lips. “This is going to be interesting.”
After work, I went home, trying to shake off the strange feeling sitting in my chest. Jack was supposed to come over that night, but he never showed up.
I called him. No answer.
Again. Nothing.
Frustrated, I told Dad I was going out for a walk. He didn’t question it.
The night air was cool, but it didn’t calm my thoughts. My mind kept replaying everything—Jack’s distance, Nyla’s smile, the way he pushed me away.
Then I saw something that made my heart drop.
“Jack?” I called out.
There he was… standing under the dim lights of an outdoor bar, kissing Nyla.
For a moment, I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe.
I walked up to them slowly.
“Jack… what’s going on?” I asked, my voice barely steady.
“What does it look like?” Nyla answered before he could speak.
That only made it worse.
“I’m talking to you,” I snapped, my eyes fixed on him.
“Lizzie, it’s not what you think. I—I’m just…” he stammered, unable to finish.
“I’ll talk to you later, okay? Just… go home.”
That was it.
Something inside me broke.
“How dare you?” I burst out, my voice shaking. “What do you take me for?”
My knees felt weak, but I refused to let them see me fall apart. I turned and walked away as fast as I could.
Then I ran.
I didn’t stop until I knew I was far enough.
That’s when the tears came.
I broke down completely, my body giving in as I sank to the ground, crying harder than I ever had before.
After a while, I heard something.
Low sounds… movement.
I wiped my tears quickly and looked around.
That’s when I realized—I had wandered too far. The place was unfamiliar… empty.
And I wasn’t alone.
A group of men stood not too far from me. Big. Watching.
My heart started pounding.
“Hey, pretty lady,” one of them called out. “Where are you going in such a hurry?”
Fear gripped me instantly.
I stood up, backing away slowly, ready to run.
But before I could, one of them grabbed my arm.
“Let me go!” I struggled, panic rising fast.
Their laughter made it worse. You look like you will taste sweet, one of them said,
I tried to pull free, my heart racing as I looked around for help—but there was no one.
“Please…” I whispered, my voice breaking.
They didn’t stop. All I could think about was to blame Jack.
Terror took over. I shut my eyes tightly, trying to block everything out.
Then suddenly—something in me snapped. I thought of my dad.
And I ran.
I didn’t know where I was going. I just ran.
Then I saw headlights.
A car.
Without thinking, I rushed forward and stood in front of it.
The car screeched to a stop.
I ran to the window, desperate. “Please—help me!”
The window rolled down.
And my heart skipped.
It was him.
The same man I saw with the cold aura guy the other day—
“Please,” I begged, my voice trembling. “They’re after me.”
He looked at me for a moment… then glanced at someone in the back seat.
The man in the back gave a small signal.
Move. I froze.
“Please,” I said again, more urgently.
But he hesitated for only a second… before the car drove past me.
Just like that.
They left.
“There she is!”
The voices came from behind me again.
Panic surged through me as I tried to run, but something hit me hard, and I fell to the ground.
“You think you can escape us?” one of them said. And gave me a slap, strip her off he said
My body trembled as I tried to move, but fear had taken over.
I shut my eyes tightly, bracing myself—
Then suddenly…
A loud sound echoed…………..
