Chapter 2: Token of Affection When she woke up again, it was already the next morning. Eudora Cook's thoughts came to a sudden halt as she abruptly recalled what had happened last night, causing her to sit up in a flash. Last night, she seemed to have been forcibly kissed... Eudora Cook quickly turned her head to survey the room. Seeing the scattered items on the floor and the glaring footprints, she realized that everything wasn't just a dream. What should she do now? She already had a boyfriend! If Truman MacMillan found out, he would surely despise her in his heart! No, this couldn't be left unresolved; otherwise, it would be too easy for that man. She had to call the police! Call the police and have him arrested! Eudora Cook picked up her phone and pressed the button before hesitating. If she called the police, everyone would find out, and it might even be exaggerated. Then, not only would Truman MacMillan leave her, but her studies would also be ruined! Just as she was at a loss, the living room door suddenly clicked open. It was her roommate, Phoebe Hamlet, returning home. Startled, Eudora Cook quickly got up and pulled off the stained bedsheet. Her neck hurt where something hard, like a stone, had been pressing against it. Curiously, she took it off and discovered it was actually a white jade pendant! The quality of the jade was excellent, clearly very valuable, with the character 'TH' carved on it, surrounded by a dragon pattern. This definitely wasn't hers or Phoebe Hamlet's, so... it must have been placed around her neck by that man. At this thought, Eudora Cook felt nauseous and, without thinking, yanked the pendant off, intending to throw it out the window before Phoebe Hamlet noticed. But just as she lifted her hand halfway, Phoebe Hamlet pushed the door open, complaining, "Oh, I'm so tired. When will these hard days end? I've had enough." Phoebe Hamlet looked at Eudora Cook and, seeing her strange posture, immediately asked, "What are you doing?" Eudora Cook retracted her hand, feeling guilty, and replied, "Nothing, nothing at all." "Nothing at all is something, isn't it?" Phoebe Hamlet walked over to Eudora Cook. They were from the same hometown, classmates, and now roommates, working part-time together. Based on their close relationship, Phoebe Hamlet knew Eudora Cook was hiding something. Eudora Cook tried to hide the pendant, but as soon as she turned, Phoebe Hamlet snatched it away with a quick step, saying, "What treasure are you hiding? Let me see!" The next second, the white jade pendant was in Phoebe Hamlet's palm, swaying gently. Phoebe Hamlet stared at the pendant, her eyes widening. As someone who loved studying jewelry, she could tell at a glance that this pendant was extremely valuable. "Eudora, who gave you this pendant? It certainly wasn't Truman MacMillan. He can barely support himself with your help, how could he afford such an expensive gift?" Phoebe Hamlet said, half envious, half jealous. Eudora Cook, who usually seemed so pure and indifferent to money, was secretly accepting such an expensive gift behind her boyfriend's back! Eudora Cook quickly explained, "This isn't anything valuable. You're mistaken; it's just a fake." "Is that so?" Phoebe Hamlet looked at the pendant again, frowning slightly when she saw the character 'Night' carved on it. "Why is there a word here?" Eudora Cook's heart raced with guilt. She was never good at lying. If Phoebe Hamlet discovered any clues and found out what happened last night, she wouldn't know how to face her. So, before Phoebe Hamlet could ask more, Eudora Cook said, "Phoebe, since you like jade, why don't you keep this pendant? Oh, and the company has an urgent task for me, so I need to go now!" With that, Eudora Cook grabbed the bedsheet and prepared to leave. Phoebe Hamlet immediately asked, "What are you doing with the bedsheet?" "Oh, some food spilled on it and made it dirty. I'm going to throw it away." Without looking back, Eudora Cook left with the bedsheet, only letting out a sigh of relief once she was out of the room. Phew, that was close. Back in the room, Phoebe Hamlet examined the pendant several times before heading to the bathroom and putting it on her neck. She noticed it complemented her skin tone, and though it changed her entire aura, it was a pity it was a fake. Otherwise, Eudora Cook wouldn't have given it to her so easily. As Phoebe Hamlet was about to take it off, the doorbell rang. Didn't Eudora Cook say she was going to work? Why was she back, and why didn't she bring her own key? Grumbling to herself, Phoebe Hamlet reluctantly went to open the door. To her surprise, two men in black suits stood outside, looking at her sternly. Startled, Phoebe Hamlet asked warily, "Who are you looking for?" The middle-aged man in front scrutinized Phoebe Hamlet, his gaze finally landing on the ancestral jade pendant of the Harrington family around her neck. He bowed respectfully and greeted, "Young Madam, good day! We are here to pick you up!"
