Episode 9

Clara‘s POV “Alright,” I said with a small, calm smile. “Please take me to my old office Beta.” My father was a famous Gamma. Before he died, he left me his notes. And I’d spent years building my own training notes and records. All of it was stored in the drawers of that office, together with the necklace left by my mom. Those were the last pieces of my past I still had, and I wasn’t going to let anyone take them. We had barely walked into the hallway when I heard raised voices ahead. “What are you doing Brianna? This is Luna’s office! You can’t touch anything in here!” I froze. That voice… I knew it instantly. Harper. Her voice trembled, almost like she was holding back her anger, but I would never mistake her for someone else. Caleb and I had found her on the way to an Alpha Summit years ago. Abandoned by her parents, she was dangerously close to becoming a rogue. But I sensed her wolf, warm and righteous, so I brought her home and trained her myself. She was my proudest warrior. I thought she had found her mate and joined another pack by now, but she was still here. “Didn’t you hear?” Brianna snapped. “Frost is becoming Gamma today. She will own this office from now on!” “What?” Harper demanded. “Alpha Caleb arranged it. This is the room closest to his office, so starting today, it’ll be Gamma Frost’s office.” “And what about Luna?” Harper asked sharply. Silence. Then whispers from the crowd. “I heard Alpha’s been dating Frost.” “Poor Luna…” My heart tightened, but I forced myself to keep moving, picking up my pace. When I reached the doorway, something crashed out onto the floor. Someone had tossed a pile of belongings out of the office. A metal badge slid to my feet. I bent down to touch it, but Logan picked it up and read softly for me, “Gamma Frost.” I lifted my head and stared straight at the badge through my sunglasses. Logan probably assumed my sight was still too damaged to see anything clearly. But I saw every letter. I saw them like they’d been burned into my eyes. “Harper! How dare you throw Gamma’s belongings!” Brianna shrieked. “This is Luna’s office. No one touches anything until she comes back,” Harper shot back. Hearing her defend me made my throat sting. I thought everyone had forgotten me. “Your Luna has been unconscious for five years. She’s never coming back!” Brianna said smugly, and when she noticed me standing in the doorway, she rolled her eyes at me. “What are you looking at? Careful, or Alpha Caleb will banish you for disrespecting Gamma Frost!” “Banish me?” I asked coldly. Before she could react, Logan’s Beta voice boomed through the hallway. “How dare you disrespect Luna? Kneel.” Harper flinched, and gasped when she saw me. In the next second, she threw herself into my arms. “Luna! I knew you’d come back!” I held her and gently patted her back. “Thank you, Harper.” She sniffed hard and pulled back enough to look at me, her expression suddenly worried. “But your eyes—” “Just temporary blindness,” I said softly. “The doctor said it’ll heal.” I brushed the tears under her eyes and turned my attention to Brianna. I’d never seen her before. She must have joined Silvercrest after I fell into the coma. She stared at me with stiff shoulders and trembling legs. After a few seconds, she forced a nervous smile. “Clara—” “It’s Luna to you.” I growled, “Kneel.” The color drained from her face. Under the weight of my Luna’s voice, her knees buckled awkwardly. But suddenly her eyes lit up as she looked past me. “Frost!” I turned my head and saw her. Frost walked toward us in a soft white dress and high heels, chin slightly lifted with that gentle, elegant posture she copied from me. She moved like someone who believed she already owned the place. “Luna,” she said as she reached me, so intimate like we’re some kind of friends. “Alpha Caleb told me you were here. I was worried you might not be familiar with the pack anymore, so I came to see if there’s anything you need help with.” Not familiar? I almost laughed. As if she were the Luna of Silvercrest… and I was just some visitor. Brianna rushed to Frost’s side, clinging to her like a lifeline. “Frost, Harper wouldn’t let me put your things in the office.” Pack members around us exchanged pitying looks—directed at me. Frost let out a soft sigh, voice full of her fake little sob. “This office is meant for Luna. Alpha Caleb only gave me permission because he was worried about me. Now that Luna’s awake, of course everything should return to its rightful owner.” I knew exactly what she was implying. Caleb hadn’t just given her my office— he’d given her my position. And she had the nerve to challenge me with fake humility. “This is my mistake,” she went on. “I can move back downstairs. My wrist just hurts from training, that’s all.” She rubbed her wrist like it pained her, and immediately people started fussing over her. “Well, since you said so…” I let my voice carry through the hallway, and everyone fell silent. “I’ll forgive you, Frost.” Harper panicked and grabbed my sleeve. “Luna!” She knew me too well. She’d watched me back down countless times just to avoid hurting someone else. But I wasn’t going to be that woman anymore. “I won’t punish you. But please move your things out now and return to where you belong.”
