I waited a few more minutes in the locked bathroom, just to be sure my mind was completely calm. I quietly unlocked the door and peeked my head out, once I knew the cost was clear I made my way to the nearest exit. Ryder was nowhere in sight and from the looks of things wasn’t looking for me yet.
The moment fresh cold air hit my face I was able to exhale a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I walked down the side walk then started jogging, hoping I would look like a normal person, casually exercising.
I ran for as long as I could but with the little to no sleep I have been getting and the fact I haven’t eaten for a few days, exhaustion started to kick in. I was a good half an hour from the mall, but only a short ten minute ride on a motorcycle. I pushed myself a little further passing gas stations and store fronts. I took a few alleyways trying to throw anyone off of my trail. The harder I am to find the better.
Nothing seems familiar in this area, telling me I went in the opposite direction of Ryders home. I walked down the side walk passing by store fronts that were closing and bars that were opening. Realizing it was close to night, panic set in. Where am I going to sleep or stay?
“Hey! Little lady!” A strange voice called out through the noise of the still busy streets. I turned around to find a bulky guy jogging towards me. I took a few slow steps back until it turned into a full blown sprint in the opposite direction. “Hey wait!” He yelled. My adrenaline was completely depleted, so was the strength in my legs. I stopped running and accepted my fate. The man eventually caught up to me, panting. “Man your quick.” He chuckled, after a few short breaths, his breathing went back to normal. “I didn’t mean to scare you. You’re not from around here are you?” He gave me an apologetic smile.
“No, I’m just passing through.”
“Do you need me to walk you home? This neighborhood isn’t really the safest place for our kind, especially at night.” He said while looking at the sun setting.
“Our kind? What do you mean?”
His eyes widened and mouth gaped open. “Oh crap, are you human?”
I still don’t understand why some people are just so comfortable asking others if they are human. “No, I thought I was but I was wrong.” I turned my head away from the man, I need to get out of here before Ryder has the chance of catching up to me.
“Oh damn.” He said in an almost whisper. His hand gently grazing my neck while moving some of my hair. “Are you running from someone? Do you need help?!” His facial expression looked almost panicked. “Come with me I know someone who can help you.” My hand flung up to the side of my neck in an attempt to hide my scar.
“I’m fine really. I’m leaving this state the second I get a chance.” I stated and started walking in the opposite direction.
“How do you expect to do that without a car or money?” He shouted. His words stopped me in my tracks. “I know someone who can get you a job and a place to stay. She’s a nice lady..when she wants to be.”
I let out a sharp sigh and walked back towards him. I didn’t really have the option at this point. I either laid low for a while and worked my way to getting out of here or I let Ryder find me sleeping on a park bench somewhere. “Okay.”
“I’m Quinn by the way”

We walked a few blocked until we came up on a building, painted a dark grey color. The building was completely windowless and my gut is telling me this was a bad idea.
We walked in through the double doors. Techno music was blaring and the bass alone was threatening to bust my ear drums. Quinn leaned down into my ear, “her office is this way.” Trying to talk over the music. He nudged his head and started walking so I followed.
Up a flight of stairs the music got quieter thankfully. Quinn opened a door at the very end of the hallway. “Where is my beautiful lady?” He yelled with a smile engulfing his face.
“I’m busy Quinn, what do you want?” The woman’s voice came from behind the desk but there was nobody there. “If I don’t find some descent staff before tomorrow happy hour is gunna be canceled.” She said frustrated.
“Well that’s kinda why I’m here darling. I may..”
She cut him off mid sentence. “I don’t have time to play your games Quinn, what ever you have planned it’s a no.” She popped her head out from under her desk and for a brief second a smile took over her face. “Who is this?”
“Your new help.”
She looked at Quinn then to me then back to him. “She’s like 14 Quinn.”
He took a look at me for a moment. “No, she’s an adult..arnt you?” He asked. I nodded my head yes and he sighed in relief.
“Honey how old are you?” The woman asked.
“I-I’m 18 ma’am”
“And what did Quinn here say to you, to get you to follow him?”
“He said you could help me, get a job and a place to stay.” I said shyly. I’m starting to think Quinn is a lier.
“You look pretty well off, I mean that brand of tshirts and your shoes arnt cheap. That leather jacket alone couldn’t have costed less then 800 dollars” As she took a closer look at my clothes her eyes became more gentle. “Those arnt yours are they?”
“No ma’am.”
“Look Darling, she’s getting out of a bad situation and needs some help.”
She gave me another gentle look. “What kind of situation?”
I wasn’t super fond of talking about any of it. In fact it was actually really hard to explain.
Quinn stepped over to me and gently pulled my hair back to reveal my scar. In pure shock and panic I yelped and moved away from him. “See traumatized. Are you going to help her?”
“What happened?” Her facial expression oozed shock and awe with a hint of pure curiosity that she couldn’t seem to hide. She walks from behind the desk and lifts my chin to the side revealing my scar. I’m a little uncomfortable but I don’t turn away.
I looked down at Ryders shoes still on my feet. “I got marked ma’am..not by choice”
“So your not human. I must say you hide it very well.” She gave me a caring smile. “Well I’m Darling and you have already met Quinn.”
“I’m Blue. It’s a pleasure to meet you and thank you for helping me.”

Quinn walks me up a few flights of stairs in the building across the street from the club. As we reach the fourth floor he takes a set of keys out of his pocket. “Apartment 7D will be your new home kiddo. Don’t worry I already took the liberty of adding a few essentials for you.” The metal door swings open with a creek. It’s not a glamorous place like Matt’s and Ryders but it’s nice. The brick walls and hardwood floors give it a nice look. “I got you a bed and a fridge some towels and a few other things. Sorry I couldn’t help with more for you kiddo.”
I shake my head. “You have already done so much for me and I hope to repay you someday.” I smile up at him.
“Crap now I think of you as a daughter.” His hand went flying over his face to hide his blushing cheeks. “Get some sleep kiddo, work starts tomorrow at 5:30pm for you and it’s getting late. Darling brought some clothes up for you from some of the girls at the club. They are a bit small and I don’t suggest going out casually in them. They are strictly for work. I’ll take you to get actual clothes when you get your first pay.” He smiled at me. He handed me the key and waved goodbye before making his descend down the many flights of stairs.
I closed the door behind me and turned to face my new home, exploring the floor plan trying to acclimate myself to the environment. As I peak into the rooms I noticed a bed in one room and what I’m assuming is a spare room with a joint bathroom connecting the two. I made my way back into the open kitchen and living room. I had a stove and fridge, but the living space was bare. I sat on the windowsill that was made to look like extra seating. I looked out at the busy night streets then closed my eyes.
