29 The cabinets were finished. Prema stood near Maria as David put the finishing touches on his cleaning job. He rubbed at each cabinet with a cloth until it shone. Prema had her arms crossed in front of her. All during that terrible afternoon she had really thought they were gone and she still had to hold herself together sometimes, physically grabbing her stomach. It often felt like it wanted to drop out, and her dreams were terrifying. She could feel happiness coming off Maria in waves. Maria was very proud of her new kitchen and all the spaces for pots and pans and plates.
