In the lavish drawing room of the exquisite mansion owned by the family of the betrothed, Mr. and Mrs. Joel, an air of anticipation hung heavy. The grand chandelier overhead illuminated the room with a warm glow, and an exquisite spread of refreshments adorned the center table. It was here that the pivotal betrothal meeting was set to take place, uniting the Joels with the young Daniels Nora Joel, stood by the window, nervously wringing her hands. Her mind was racing with thoughts of how to convey her true feelings to her parents without causing an irreparable rift of whether their parents will back off or not. As the Daniels and Joels families gathered, formal pleasantries were exchanged, and the atmosphere was charged with a mix of anxiety. As the day wore on, the conversation turned to the much-anticipated topic of the betrothal. Mr. Daniel, an imposing figure with a stern expression, cleared his throat and addressed the gathering. "We are gathered here today to discuss the betrothal of our children." Nora glanced at her parents, her heart pounding loudly in her chest. Summoning her courage, she spoke, "Father, Mother, I am grateful for the love and care you have always bestowed upon me. But I must confess, I do not share the same sentiments as you do regarding Richard. I barely know him, and I fear that a marriage based solely on tradition may not lead to happiness, I do not want to be in a marriage where there is no happiness ." Mr. Joel thought of a way to try to convince his daughter "Nora, you are being unreasonable. The Daniels are an esteemed family, and Richard is a respectable young man. You will grow to love him in due time." Nora chose her words carefully this time expressing her gratitude for their love and concern but also sharing her genuine desires and aspirations. "I understand the importance of our family's business relationship, but I hope you can see that I have found my own path, my own purpose. Marrying Richard is not something I can accept at this moment in my life." Richard, who was standing across the room, listened intently to Nora's words, hoping their parents would show some empathy. Taking a deep breath, he added, "Mr. Joel I understand Nora's apprehensions. You should give us the freedom to choose our own path in life and not help us choose ." Mr. Daniel, a man of few words, intervened, "Richard, we have already given this matter considerable thought and our decision is so rigid. The alliance between our families is of great importance. It is not a decision that can be easily undone. We have to go on with the betrothal process and you both will benefit the aftermath, we are your parents and we won't lead you astray, just do as we say and you will see for yourself that she's a very good girl for you ." Nora's desperation grew, and she turned to Richard's mother, Mrs. Daniels, who appeared slightly more approachable. "Mrs. Daniels, please understand that I do not wish to hurt anyone's feelings, but my heart is not in this betrothal. I hope you can comprehend my predicament. Help me convince them please " Mrs. Daniels sighed sympathetically but shook her head. "My dear, I know it is difficult to comprehend the significance of this alliance at your age, but believe me, it is for the best. Our families have stood together for generations, and breaking this betrothal would have serious repercussions, I will like you to listen to us ." Richard felt bad about where the discussion was heading, but he knew how rigid his parents could be. He tried to find a middle ground. "Perhaps we could delay the betrothal? Give Nora and me some time to get to know each other better?" Mr. Daniel's face darkened at the suggestion. "Delaying the betrothal would be an insult to our ancestors and the Joels. We have already extended this process long enough. The betrothal must be finalized today." Nora's eyes filled with tears of frustration, but she refused to give up. "Please, Father, Mother, I beg you to reconsider. I want to marry for love, not for the sake of upholding tradition." Richard's voice softened as he joined Nora, pleading with their parents, "Love and happiness should be at the core of any marriage. Let us find our own paths and see where life takes us." The room fell into an uncomfortable silence as the parents exchanged stern glances. Mr. Daniel finally broke the silence, "Enough of this nonsense! The decision has been made, and it is final. The betrothal will take place as planned." Feeling defeated, Nora and Richard exchanged disappointed glances. They had hoped their parents would see reason, but it seemed their pleas had fallen on deaf ears. Tradition and pride had won over the desires of their hearts. In the days that followed, the preparations for the betrothal proceeded with great enthusiasm, while Nora and Richard grappled with their emotions in private. The weight of their parents' expectations bore down on them heavily, and they struggled to come to terms with the inevitability of their union. As the day of the betrothal ceremony approached, Nora and Richard found solace in each other's company, sharing their fears and insecurities. Despite their initial reservations about each other, a bond began to form, driven by their shared determination to find happiness in an uncertain future. Little did they know that the course of their lives was about to change dramatically, and the journey ahead would test their strength, resilience, and most importantly, their commitment to each other. Whether they could find love amidst the constraints of tradition and familial expectations remained to be seen. And so, with the weight of tradition bearing down upon them, Nora and Richard stood at the crossroads of their destiny, wondering what the future held for them as they prepared to embark on a journey of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery. The duo fell in love with one another amidst the whole betrothal situation but held back feelings cos of fear of revealing the obvious to one another. The Joels and the Daniels were happy to see their children exploring the path they wanted. Richard thought it is time to make their relationship official by asking Nora out officially, he called her to express his feeling. "Hi Nora" Richard said immediately she picked her call "I have been guarding my feelings and it might run me mad if I keep it away from you that I am in love with you, I never would have thought that I will fall in love with you considering how we met but I am glad it happened" Richards said this with a beating heart anticipating Nora's reply and Lo and Behold she reciprocated the feeling . "I do love you too a lot, Nora said feeling shy afterwards", there was a thirty seconds silence between them after they confessed their feeling and they both talked a lot after that day. Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months that Nora and Richard began dating with their engagement preparation still going on. Their love story may not have been conventional, but it was a tale of two souls intertwining in pursuit of a shared dream, a dream that bloomed from the shattered fragments of destiny's plan, proving that sometimes, the most beautiful symphonies emerge from the most unexpected harmonies The duo finally agreed to go on their first official date the next day and the plan was for Richard to come pick her, "Hi baby, I will like to take us out tomorrow, will you be available ?" Nora's heart was flattered immediately Richard initiated the date idea on a phone call, "of course, I will be available", she replied with excitement and a date was anticipated. Nora found her way to her parent's room after the call and hugged them, "thank you mom and dad, I think I like him already", Mr and Mrs Joel looked at each other with a smile and was happier their daughter is happy. "We have a date tomorrow and Richard will be coming to pick me" Nora said with her cheeks burning as a result of blushing and smiling" "I have a lady to style tomorrow then" Mrs Joel beamed with pride as she promised to style Nora for her date. The family laughed and the whole initial tension at the beginning of the betrothal situation was nowhere to be found. Nora and Mrs Joel spent the rest of the day choosing the perfect dress, accessories, shoes for the date. Mrs Rachael matched the outfits with Nora's approval and Nora who could not wait for the date agreed on the chosen outfit. "I have never been on a date mom, I don't know how I should act around him tomorrow, I do not want to act in a way that will be weird," Nora told her mother with anxiety. Mrs Joel who watched her daughter in admiration could not help but chuckle as she assured her the date will go well as she have nothing to worry about. "Just act naturally, make sure you are you and you will be good ” Mrs Joel said as she concluded while raising her shoulders above her neck and Nora taking note of what her mother was saying. ”Have I ever told you how I met your father?” Mrs Joel asked Nora "No mommy, I will like to know" Nora said as she waited for her mom to begin her story "Well, it was on a Saturday morning, I was with my mother and father when they broke the news of me being betrothed to your father, I felt so bad but I had no say, I cried my eyes out because I had someone in my life, they did not approve my relationship with the guy I was with, I thought they would have a change of mind but they never did, my parents and your father's orchestrated a meeting for I and your father and he confessed to me he fell in love with me immediately, he could not take his eyes off me as he was impressed with what he saw but the opposite was the case for me because I was so committed to my relationship, but my parents would not even give me listening ears, I played along just to satisfy them but little did I know I was about to know the best man of my life, I went to my ex-fiancee's place unannounced to show my displeasure of what my parents were doing to me but I caught him in bed with another woman and I felt my world crumbling at my feet, I went back to my parent's feeling dejected and I just had to give in to the betrothal plan, and ever since I knew your father, I knew peace, love and prosperity, our energy together blossomed into the best thing and you are the best thing it blossomed into. Our first date was magical and I felt anxious like you are feeling right now, my mother chose my outfits and accessories like I just did and I am happy with the outcome of all of that' '. Nora who was surprised her mother dated someone before her father opened her mouth in surprise and teased her mother with questions . ''How will you feel if you see him again? Have you seen him since you left him?" Amelia Joel who had all the time in the world to satisfy her daughter's curiosity answered her one at a time "I feel good where I am already so there will be no mixed feeling and I saw him ten years ago when I and your father went on a date and we exchanged pleasantries ." Amelia answered her daughter's questions. Mrs Joel said all of her past to Nora with a smile while reminiscing old times and Nora could not help but smile at the memory of how her parents met . "You and dad's story is so inspiring and sweet, and I am ready to thread the same path" Nora said with assurance while nodding her head in accordance to her speech and her mother encouraged. "It is late already you should go to bed" Mrs Rachael said, she carefully carried Nora to her bed and bade her goodnight and she left Nora's room afterwards. The black sky turned bright with time as the sun set, smiling at the world , Nora woke as the ray of the sun shone through the blinds of her room, she woke full of energy and anticipation of how the day will go but she relaxed her nerves after remembering her mom's word of how she should relax her nerves cos everything will play out nice and fine. She positioned herself on her wheel chair as she went to her parent's room to say hello "Good morning mom and dad" she greeted them as her dad hugged her. "Good morning my beautiful angel, good morning princess ". Mr. and Mrs. Joel replied their daughter simultaneously as Mr. Joel positioned himself beside his wife after hugging Nora. "I will be getting ready for my outing, Richard will soon be here" Nora said in preparation to take her bath for her date, while her mother followed her behind to glam her, she assisted Nora to the bathroom to take her bath, assisted her in wearing her already chosen white gown paired with a red tommy belt giving valentine aura, with a silver necklace that is perfect for her neck and a silver earring to pair, braided her hair in a French braid and clipped her hair like that of a bride, she curved her brow like that of a princess and applied the right powder for her skin tone, she painted her lip matte red matching her red bag and red foot wear. "It took good genes to make you this beautiful, you know? You look just like a new bride, my darling" Amelia Joel teased her daughter after glamming her up. "Richard will definitely fall deeper for you after he sees you today cos you are the most beautiful person to ever grace the surface of the earth", Nora could not help but smile as her mother continue to heap praises on her. " Thank you mom, I took after you and dad, " Nora said as her mother pushed her with her wheel chair to the sitting room to await her date. Mr. Joel came out to the sitting room and could not help but praise his daughter as she looked perfect for her date "My darling!!! You look so beautiful ", he said that and smile and Nora blushed more. A knock was heard on the door and Nora's anxiety heightened but was cut short when she discovered it was not Richard but a delivery man who came to deliver some package to Mr. Joel.
