780 Words
It was our third day in hospital and my mother's condition was promising and it gave me hope. I so much loved my mom and we had the most amazing mother and daughter relationship. We would share anything at times, even my feelings about anything, without being ashamed. My mother was humble, always smiling. Actually, she is the kindest woman I have ever known. As we were busy chatting, I saw my grandmom approaching us from the door and fear creeped in, and my mom assured me that I shouldn't fear anything. She would be there for me. When grandma saw my mom, she broke down in tears. She couldn't believe her eyes. My mom assured her that she would get better. My grandma told me to pack my stuff and go home as she would be taking care of my mom, but mom disapproved and said "No mom, I want my daughter to be next to me. Please allow her to stay so that she can assist you." Luckily, grandma did not object, and I was so relieved. relatives and friends can in their numbers to support and pray for her. One of my uncles from my father's side came to visit and my mom requested a moment with him alone. Apparently, she asked him to take care of me once she passed on because I cannot stay with my grandma as she hated me for reasons known to her only. I was so hurt that how could she prepare for death when I needed her the most?. Before the week ended, my mom could not speak nor eat, she suddenly went mute and it was clear to everyone that the condition was becoming worse every day. I tried to be strong but everyone was, sadness in their eyes, including my stepfather. My sister would call us every day and we would assure her that she would be better. She couldn't come because she was away in South Africa at school. My grandmom sent me home(my mother's birthplace) and said I must come back after a few days. At home, I couldn't sleep, was so stressed to an extent that I developed stress symptoms , I couldn't move my neck, it was so stiff. The next day, while I was asleep, I had a dream that people were busy singing and moving around. The following day my spirit was so down. I was with my aunt and her children. While we were busy doing chores, a visitor came. I knew something was wrong. She looked at me and said " I am sorry my daughter , your mother could not make it. She passed on in the morning. I just received a call from the hospital." My world was crushed at that moment , I was broken. The agony I felt cannot be compared to anything. I was soaked in tears. A very big part of me died on that day. They tried comforting me but it all fell into vein. I couldn't share the pain with my sister because we were not allowed to tell her as she was at school. I tried to be strong so that we could prepare for the funeral. I would cry every time a picture of her crosses my mind. I even wish death could also visit me. I could not imagine a normal life without my mother. I was completely different from how I felt when i lost my father because she was there for me and assured me that she would be there for me always....A and she was also gone. Who will be there for me? Who will love me? Who will take care of my needs? How would I live in this world without a loving mother to hold my hand? The funeral day finally arrived. People came in busses, taxis and private cars. It was so packed . Everyone wanted to come and say goodbye to the most amazing woman. Many people loved her. When the hearse arrived with the coffin , it was so sad and it was time to say goodbye forever. I went next to the coffin and said " Goodnight mom until we see each other. Do not forget to look out for me every day, I will forever love you". I could not contain the pain anymore. I wailed until my aunt gave me sleeping pills. The night vigil continued until morning and she was taken to her resting place. She was laid to rest with dignity. I was so heart broken because my sister could not attend and she was still in the dark believing that our mom was still in hospital................
