I barely hear from Aspen the following week. She never responded to my (probably overly presumptuous) “when can I see you again?” text, so on Monday, I try for something a little less pushy: How’s your day going?
She doesn’t reply until Wednesday, when she writes: I’ve had better weeks.
I know the feeling, of course. Dad hasn’t found out about my breakup with Mel yet, but the rest of the school has, and most of them seem to be siding with her. Tanner still says he’s got my back, and the team isn’t outright shunning me or anything, but… they just seem to be acting weird. Like I make them nervous, or something.
