## Chapter Four — The Document
She did not show Nathan the document that evening.
She sat across from him at her kitchen table with her bag on the chair beside her and the document inside it and she asked him one question: had he seen enough of the funding trail when he first signed on to Thompson-Hayes's portfolio that he should have dug deeper?
He said yes.
He had told her that this morning. He was not changing the answer now that she was looking at him differently. He held her gaze and said yes the same way he had said it the first time — not as a confession, not as a defense, just as the accurate answer to the question she had asked.
She nodded.
She did not show him the document.
Not because she was hiding it — she was not in the business of hiding
