Jake asked to be brought fully current on Tuesday.
Not partially — he had been getting pieces all week, the way you get pieces when you're not quite inside the inner circle and people are deciding how much to hand you at once. He sat down across from Mia at the kitchen table and said: "I want everything. From the photograph to William Cross to what Carrie is building. All of it."
So she told him.
She had been working on the habit of telling things fully since Book One's worst lesson — the specific cost of someone deciding what you could handle. She had paid that cost. She did not repeat it.
