Chapter Seven: A Lifeline

468 Words
Qin Xue Che walked silently along the city's outskirts, her tears finally flowing freely. What had she done wrong to deserve being fired, and then repeatedly rejected by companies for various reasons? Was her dream truly slipping further away? But what was her dream, anyway? Did she even have any left? The phone rang abruptly, interrupting her thoughts. It was an unfamiliar number. "Hello?" Xue Che answered tentatively. "Hello, is this Miss Qin Xue Che?" A strange male voice came from the other end. "Yes, it is. May I ask who’s calling?" "Hello, I’m Manager Huang from the Human Resources Department of Jun Yue Tianxia Group." "Manager Huang, hello. How can I help you?" Xue Che asked, astonished. Jun Yue Tianxia—the legendary company? "Hello, Miss Qin. I’m pleased to inform you that our company has officially hired you. You can report to the office tomorrow." The emotionless words felt like a lifeline to Qin Xue Che. "But...but I never submitted a resume to your company." "That, I’m not aware of. I was instructed to contact you directly. Please report to the HR department at 9 AM tomorrow, and ask for me. Do not be late. Goodbye." Manager Huang hung up immediately. What was going on? Manager Huang from Jun Yue Tianxia’s HR department called and said I’ve been hired!" "What? Xue Che, are you sure you heard correctly? I tried so hard to get my resume in there and couldn’t. How did you manage it? Wow! I’m really impressed!" Ruxin was practically glowing with envy and excitement. Could it be that after all her hardships, fate was finally smiling upon dear Xue Che? "I really don’t know, maybe there was a mistake somewhere? But the call was definitely for me. Regardless, I need this job. I’ll just go with the flow!" Xue Che reassured herself, though she felt a twinge of unease. "Yes, go with the flow! But congratulations, Xue Che! Don’t forget to treat us when you get your first paycheck! Hehe." Ruxin was genuinely happy and excited for her friend. This was truly a lifeline in a time of need. "Alright! I won’t forget! Talk to you later. I’ll call you with the good news tomorrow." With that, Xue Che hung up, looked up at the azure sky and drifting clouds, and smiled. Which cloud was she?
