Chapter 4: An Impossible Request

Sheena It had been almost twenty-four hours since Aiden brought me to his place, and I hadn't felt this kind of quiet in years. I woke up on a mattress softer than anything I’d ever touched, without a single bill hanging over my head or a boss waiting to yell at me. For the first time in my life, I didn't wake up dreading the day ahead. Sitting in that huge, empty bedroom, I couldn't just stay put. I wanted to be useful. I wanted to do something, anything, to repay him, even if it was just making breakfast or cleaning up the kitchen. I stepped out into the hallway, bare feet sinking into the thick carpet, making my way toward the front of the penthouse. But as I passed a set of wooden doors, raised voices cut through the quiet. “I didn’t sign up to do his damn dirty work.” “There’s nothing we can do. He’s got leverage.” I froze in the middle of the hall. I knew I should have turned around and walked away, but my feet wouldn't move. I took a slow step forward, leaning my shoulder against the wall and pressing my ear near the gap in the frame. Then, total silence. Before I could scramble back down the hall, the metal handle turned. The door swung outward, and I almost fell sideways right into the doorway. I ended up staring awkwardly at the chest of a massive man. He was built like Aiden, but wider across the shoulders and far more intimidating. He was a bit shorter, but standing this close, I still had to tilt my head back just to look at him. I swallowed hard, my mouth going completely dry as I tried to pull together an excuse for standing outside his door. “Your scent gives you away, Sheena,” Aiden’s voice drifted over from inside. He was leaning back against his large desk, arms crossed over his chest. He didn't sound mad at all. If anything, he looked pleased to see me. “Perfect timing, actually,” Aiden added, his blue eyes locking onto mine. “I’ve got a problem on my hands, Sheena, and you’re pretty much the only one who can help me out here.” My pulse leaped. He actually needed me. Before stepping fully into the room, I caught myself and gave the large man in front of me a small, hasty bow. “I’m Sheena. It’s nice to meet you.” He looked down at me, his eyes a dark, heavy brown as he took me in. “Fahrud,” he said, his voice deep. “The pleasure is mine.” He stepped back to give me room to pass. “What is it?” I asked Aiden. I tried to sound calm, but the excitement in my voice was painfully obvious. Aiden turned to his desk, picked up a photograph, and held it out to me. I took it, looking closely at the image. It was simple, a small rectangular pouch with a crest stamped into the plastic: a three-headed wolf. I looked back up at him, entirely confused. “I had something taken from me,” Aiden explained, leaning against the desk. “A financial ledger. It’s got every transaction my company’s ever made. You can imagine what happens if that gets out, right?” I shook my head. I knew nothing about running corporations or managing massive amounts of money. Aiden took a step toward me, reaching out to wrap his fingers around my hand. The sudden warmth of his palm made my chest tighten in that familiar, nervous way. “It ruins everything,” he said softly, his fingers giving mine a gentle pressure. “What do you say, Sheena? Think you can help me out?” “Of course,” I said immediately. “Whatever you need.” A slow smile touched his lips. “You mean it? Perfect. Being an Omega actually puts you in the best position to pull this off.” I tilted my head, not entirely tracking what he meant. Aiden leaned in a fraction closer, his eyes fixed on mine.“Would you be willing to seduce someone for me, Sheena?” My lips parted, but no sound came out. He watched my reaction carefully, then turned his head slightly to the side, the dark look in his eyes softening into something gentle and understanding. “Is that asking too much?” “No!” I blurted out, waving my free hand a little too fast. “No... I was just surprised, that’s all.” “Does that mean yes?” He searched my face, looking almost vulnerable.“Because I’m kind of out of options here. I dropped a fortune last night, and if I can’t get this ledger back, my own board is going to ruin me.” I bit the inside of my lip. He had ruined his own safety and spent an impossible fortune just to buy my freedom. How could I say no to him after that? “Yes,” I said, looking right into his eyes. “I’ll do it. Just tell me what I have to do.” Aiden let go of my hand and turned back to his desk, picking up a thin beige file and handing it to me. I opened it. Inside was a single sheet of paper with a photo of a woman, a name, and an occupation. Iris Maine. Housekeeper. I looked up at him, waiting for him to make sense of it. “I need you to infiltrate Neil Faustino’s pack using that alias,” Aiden explained. “You’ll go in as Iris Maine, seduce him, and gain his trust. Once you’ve got his attention, you find where he’s keeping my ledger and bring it back to me. If they figure out who you actually are, it’s instant war.” My heart started hammering against my ribs, so hard I could hear it ringing in my ears. Was I being too reckless? Seducing an Alpha... using my heat and pheromones when I barely knew how to control them in the first place... What if I messed up? I caught my breath, every instinct screaming at me to admit that I was way too scared to pull something like this off. But then I looked at Aiden. He was watching me with so much hope in his eyes, the same man who had carried me out of that hellish auction house when nobody else cared if I lived or died. I swallowed the fear rising in my throat and forced myself to nod. “I can do it,” I said. I would do it for him. For my mate. It was my chance to prove that I wasn't just broken baggage he had to take care of, that I actually had something to offer. A bright, genuine smile spread across his face. He stepped close, reaching out to cradle my cheek in his warm palm. “That’s my girl,” he murmured, his thumb brushing gently over my skin. “Don’t disappoint me, Sheena.” He leaned down and pressed a soft, lingering kiss right against my forehead. “Get this done for me,” he whispered against my skin, “and when you get back, you won't ever have to worry about a thing again.”
