They came from both sides. Fast. Precise. Coordinated. Evelyn stepped back. Not retreating— Positioning. The first blade sliced toward her throat. She leaned just enough— Felt the wind of it against her skin. Her hand shot out. Caught his forearm. Twisted. Used his momentum—Slam. She drove him straight into the second attacker. Their bodies collided with a grunt of impact. Disoriented. Off balance That was all she needed. Evelyn moved. Low strike— She kicked the back of one man’s knee. He dropped instantly. She pivoted— Drove the blade into his ribs. Clean. Deep. She pivoted— Drove the blade into his ribs. Clean. Deep. Evelyn ducked. Rolled. Came up behind him—Elbow to the jaw. Hard. He staggered. She didn’t stop. Blade across his side. Not fatal. Intentional. He screamed. His grip loosened. She kicked his wrist. The dagger flew. Then— Silence. Just for a moment. Until— A sharp whistle cut through the air. Evelyn froze. Her instincts screamed. She dropped. A dart sliced past where her head had been. Poison. Her eyes darkened instantly. This wasn’t just an assassination. This was planned. Layered. Precise. She scanned the battlefield. Ignored everything else. Focused. Searching. And then she found him. Standing at the edge of the chaos. Watching. Waiting. The leader.
