Reign's phone rang at exactly nine in the morning.
She looked at the screen and felt her heart do that stupid thing it had been doing for days now, jumping before her brain caught up. Then she saw her mother's name, and everything settled back, and she exhaled, trying not to touch the embarrassing and disappointed part that she had thought it was Dashiell.
She answered. "Good morning, mother."
"Come to the house." Miranda's voice was tight. "Now."
"Is something wrong…"
"Now, Reign."
And just like that, the line went dead.
Reign stared at her phone for a second. Then with a sigh, she pushed her breakfast aside and made her way upstairs, bear bouncing along her.
