Chapter 9By late afternoon, we are thoroughly fed up dealing with stupid people. If another holidaymaker comes into the office with a ridiculous request or a tedious problem, we will all become stark, raving mad. Added to this, the heat has built up unbearably, it's in the high twenties and the air is oppressively heavy. By five o'clock, I find myself staring at the clock willing the minutes to tick by. Unable to stand any more of the stuffiness, I go outside to try and get some breaths of fresh air. As I glance towards the Canigou, the highest peak in the region, I see grey cloud rolling down the mountainside. The sky is blackening and I know we will soon have rain.
