Chapter 12The ambulance duly arrives and within minutes, removes its charge to the hospital. The remainder of their party follow in a hastily-summoned taxi. Calmness returns and I take my time finishing my lunch for which I am not charged. “It's on the house, Danielle. Thank you for all your help. I'm sorry you missed your appointment,” Cedric says. I did little to deserve a free lunch, but I'm not complaining. When I leave the café, I walk past the estate agency only to see a sign on the door informing me it will be closed until Thursday, owing to bereavement.
