Nora With my eyes shut tight, I waited for the pattering of Clyde's feet to disappear. Before I knew it, I slipped from pretending to nap into an actual deep slumber. When my eyes fluttered open again, the afternoon sun was already casting its golden glow around the room. The first thing I noticed was Harriet, perched by the window like a curious sparrow, peering at the delicate leaves of a herb through a giant magnifying glass. The moment I shifted, her eyes darted toward me, and she flitted over with a smile. Gently, she helped prop me up against a mountain of fluffy pillows. "Awake, sleepyhead? How are you feeling?" she asked. "Much better, thank you, Madam Harriet," I replied, warmth filling my heart. She waved her hand dismissively and handed me a bowl of fragrant medicinal soup.
