20 Jack sat on the bed, waiting patiently for me to wake up. The best way to avoid horrible thoughts is to sleep, preferably the dreamless kind—avoidance by sleep. I was tired of dealing. The meds they were feeding me probably helped a bit. Sedatives can be wonderful. I understood why my father pulled the trigger. If that was what he went through with Jack, I couldn’t blame him for it. If I ever got out alive, my mother would have some explaining to do.
